    winter wheat prices-montana/alberta

Grain companies along the high line, 30 miles south of the 49th paralell, in Montana, are paying $3.60 US per bushel for #1 high protein winter wheat. Compare that to $1.55Can. The Canadian Wheat Board is paying for delivery to rail points in southern Alberta. This is a difference of $3.20 Canadian dollars less that the Wheat Board is offering Canadian farmers.

The question is if the Government of Alberta and Ralph Klein are standing up for Alberta grain producers, as Ralph would like producers to believe, then why not pass legislation to challenge the **** and pillage of Western Farmers by the Wheat Board.

Maybe somebody convinved Ralph we all like to be had and gerrymandered by bureacrats and bums on the Canadian Wheat Board. Has anybody been keeping track of Shirley Lately!!!!

It's not what Alberta Ralph may or may not do. It's Saskatchewan Ralph that matters.

The reason for a price differential of $3.20/bu is because the Canadian government continues to enforce a border restriction on wheat and barley.

All WESTERN wheat and barley farmers are denied access to the rest of the worlds buyers via the requirement, that in order to export, a licence is required at Canada Customs. A licence that one can only obtain from the CWB. And until Saskatchewan Ralph decides different this is always going to be the case.

So unless Alberta Ralph is prepared to kick all federal customs officials out of the province and man the ports with Alberta folks, who will then accomodate exporting farmers, we're going to be saddled with this absurd burden for a few more years yet.

        $3.20 per bushel...thats $128.00 per acre....on 2000 acres thats $256,000!!

I remembered about 10 years ago being lectured by a rep of Canada Malt that I should not complain... and just be happy about the job the CWB was doing for me. Canada Malt was buying from the board, barley, for about $3.50 bu. while across the line it was bringing $7.00

I quit. It was the last year I planted malt barley. I had been growing it years and was good at it.
