It's not socialism to ensure your country's infrastructure is keeping up to the output of the country.....for the good of the country.....

Especially if a country depends on exports.....

It's pretty simple and probably more important than another new stadium funded by taxpayers. ....

    Sheesh. ...the dumb****led farmer.tm...

Infrastructure is one thing but when you get post like this many on here must be wondering!

"Crow freight rate system and buying wheat from farmers and stockpiling it to maintain prices abovr cost of production.

      What a novel concept."

Klaus the so called Libertarian just posted the above, sounds very socialist to me. What ever happen to all the free market chatter that went on during the CWB days?

Then of coarse you got SK3 complaining, while gambling in Vegas.

Yes, 194,500 is on the rail headed to the coast or Thunder Bay. I think that number leaves out cars spotted for loading and cars that have arrived at port. Also, I do not think it includes cars that head south to the US or Mexico.
Check the PPShipDist Page for a closer look at where grain leaving primary and process elevators is destined.
Check the Terminal receipts page for bulk shipments received at port terminals during the week.

        Have fun digging!

Open market project was never finished.....and don't expect offenders to step up to the plate and fix the problems created by them.....each "big dog" for themselves. Canada's welfare isn't answered to, shareholder's returns and private business balance sheets/income and expense statements rule the day. How can you expect private or publicly traded businesses to be in the business of "nation building"? If you want business to do what's best for all the people of the country....you better have public crowns.

Maybe buy some shares and hope that the dividends and share appreciation offsets, or surpasses, whatever you think the "free" market is costing you.

CP and CN ....service versus "serve us"(read "themselves")

I also campaign for a nationalized rail line system where companies pay to travel down the lines, and any company can get a license to operate on the tracks...

You don't miss any chance to attack somebody (well, SF3 and me usually) but they are awfully shallow attempts.

We don't have a free market economy in the world... we have massive corporations (bayer/monsanto, et al) that can only exist because governments make it possible through this retarded international trade agreements and subsides.

In a libertarian... or free market economy, these companies would be too large, ineficient, and un-dynamic, they would go broke, and cease to exist, voids being filled by small dynamic firms.

That's besides the point... we are trying to compete with countries that are spending billions on ag and infrastructure. What are we doing?

Nothing. Our ag groups spend check off money on retreats and distillery tours, along with Palm Springs trips (that would be Sask Canola)... Instead of lobbying for better rail infrastructure.... Better port infrastructure...

We need massive infrastructure investments to remain competitive. We need to make radical changes in grain production to keep us ahead of our competitors.

We can not compete on quantity. We need to compete on quality. On ecological sustainability.

Our forestry industry has the FSC. Why don't grain and livestock producers have the same... independent (non chemical industry) certification that we are sustainable producers

Why don't we ban the pre harvest use of glyphosate... We would be able to keep it as a tool for the pre seed and post harvest uses... and be able to get into European and premium Asian markets where our product can command a premium.

Ok, I'm done for the night

Pour another scotch and keep thinking!

The chemical desicattors will have your nuts, but it might be wise to beat the mandated version of what we may be facing. Easy for me to talk...not much of a loss to me!

                It's rather simple.

In canada we do nothing but talk and divide.

                We need real leadership.

Because within 10 years we won't sell a bushel of grain to the world. Yes you heard it here.

South America gets their transportation and port problems figured out.

Russia has some of the best ground for farming and they use to be able to grow crops they will well again as they are showing us.

We're over cost system where every one else makes on farmers and all cost is passed onto us.

Basically we let the pigs get control.

Russia will have issues later but in the take over its easy beat the idiots at their own game.

Plant rights, chemical rights seed rights.

Yea really in a communist country.

                China will help South America.

Canada the European and USA will fail.

And all because we're land locked over cost system.

yes we should manage and plan our transportation system ,
I have said that all along .

but harper and Ritz's response to the transportation crisis was
they wanted a market solution. no interference .
( in a transport monopoly) ya right.

you could not even get real market transparency, when the board ended.
so not much hope for your guys helping

you can call it whatever you want , but nationalizing the rail beds is socialist.
I am sure CN and CP would see it that way.

if you do not like the term , fine.

                  call it something else.

they call it the Mississippi in the states .

just saying , socialism is not a bad word
you seem to be OK with Medicare. and a lot of other programs .

or is it just a case of when someone else gets a govt. benefit ,
                  it's socialism .

and when we get a benefit it is a needed govt . program

another point is , if trump axes NAFTA , then nationalizing the rail beds is possible again .

but then again , what would be the point of any govt. going to all that trouble .
only to have conservatives elected federally and sell it all off again.

would you still vote conservative , and secretly hope the other guys won

                      Farming101

Uh , CGC is the regulator and supposedly following this stuff.

What moves on rail to the west coast by their numbers is what matters....

It doesn't matter if it's there already or hasn't been shipped...

There is close to 2 mmt of boat space and the port facilities are not full.

This crop isn't moving very well.

Lentil and pea exports are way behind and are now at a complete standstill.

So while you are toasting Yerry Ritz at his farewell/ retirement party maybe you could ask him where the weekly transparent reports are for the industry.....because it seems stupid to listen to a weekly crop report on the radio without a whisper of what's going on beyond the farm gate.....

If industry had to look for info on farms the same way we have to on them they would be planting sheep, felcro, rubber boots and a camera in every MPs office until they had the data they needed or wanted .....and it appears that has been checked off their bucket list.

                        Week 13 totals
6,791,287 tonnes shipped from Pacific in 117 vessels 56,549 tonnes/vessel

A crude calculation would come up with
Week 14 lineup is 22 vessels 22 X 56,549=1,244,078 tonnes needed to clear ships in port

Listen in to this. An excellent commentary

6.7 mmt shipped in one week or year to date?

If it's in one week the crop should be moved by week 14.....if year to date the crop won't move ....

Great that capacity at West coast is growing....why do trains sit for a week on the prairies after being loaded?
