The RCMP were standing at this fenced bushy illegal crossing trying to stop them ( many Nigerians leaving the US). The border jumpers just pushed on past the cops in defiance. They said they knew that Canada would be their salvation, but I'll be damned if they cared about our law and order. Can you believe? Whobwants to lay out the welcome mat for law-breakers, you Grassy and Chuck?

Back to Christmas school etc. I was surprised my kids entire school has a carol sing every afternoon this year in the gym. (Grades 1 to 4) They seem to do lots of crafts and activities with a Christmas focus and that is great.

My complaint is that cameras/ pi tures are not allowed anymore at school events. I think it's pretty ridiculous that you can't take your child's picture at the concert in case you accidentally get someone else in the photo. Who cares if someone posts on Facebook a group shot of children doing a group event. I would think it gives everyone a pride boost and a feeling of teamwork etc. But according to society I'm wrong.

Christmas has lost a lot of its original meaning for many people. It has turned into more of a commercial holiday that makes or breaks retailers. Why do we need most of this extra out of control spending that really only makes us feel empty and broke. Yes it is fun to watch the small kids and they get so excited. But for most older teenagers and adults the joy is gone.

On the issue of first nations we are seeing a cultural change as we recognize the injustice and harm that we have brought. When first nations all live in decent houses and have good jobs, similar incomes and services as non-indigenous Canadians, then our job will have been done. But when you consider the standard of living of most first nations is well below average and many live in crappy over crowded houses without running water or safe water, we have work to do.

Many Christian consider Mary and Joseph refugees. Like many of our ancestors refugees are trying to find a better place to live without persecution, war, and poverty. How can you blame mothers and fathers for wanting a better life for their children? We are a nation of first nations, immigrants and refugees. This is what makes us who we are.

"Border jumpers" "designated border crossing" "damned if they cared about our law and order."

Irony of fake outrage coming from anti-CWB "border jumpers" = priceless.

On the reserve, the people don't even own their homes. Which one of us would like their lot in life? Think we all start out as equals? - not in my opinion ------ So my twelve days of Xmas started yesterday, only its not giving to some bureaucratic agency where much disappears, but instead placed into a warm hand. Today, it was a young indigenous fellow with two small children in a sleigh. The excitement was excellerating. Just my way of sharing the spirit of the season. Merry Christmas to you all.

First paragraph is correct. If you read the Harvard speech that I posted a few days ago, you will have noticed that this problem was directly addressed.

The rest of your post is complete BS, demonstrating an abject ignorance of the cause of native poverty and of Biblical fact.

As for native poverty, why are there many who have done well for themselves in the same circles as those who live in drafty hovels? The problem is largely self-perpetuating due to indifference and corruption.

And Mary and Joseph absolutely were not refugees. They were visiting Bethlehem to register in the Roman-decreed census having every intention to return home afterward.

But that's the Liberal way, denying facts, recasting both reality and history to suit their twisted narrative.

Have not heard that but another example of politically correct liberalism gone off the deep end.
I videoed every concert at our school, from 1994 - 2003. Curling games, skating, guess I should hide the copies from the privacy police?

Burnt, check out the Gospel Of Matthew which tells the story of holy family fleeing to Egypt to escape Herod. Fiction or fact? I will leave that up to everyone to decide on their own.

Here are a couple of links that make the case for Jesus and the Holy family as refugees. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant. The Christian message is clear, refugees deserve compassion and caring.

Jesus the refugee child in the Gospel of Matthew

                          Was Jesus a refugee?
Israelites in peril made their way to Egypt many times in the biblical record.

So what is the truth of first nation poverty Burnt? How many northern reserves have you been on where there are no jobs, no high schools, no running water and over crowded houses and little hope that things will get better?

You would have to be really ignorant of reality and history to blame only first nations people for their current conditions. Sure there is corruption and mismanagement on first nations. Just like there is in non aboriginal communities and governments there are those who think only of themselves and blame everyone else.

We created the system under which they find themselves. We created the residential schools that abused them and took away their pride and dignity.

But I would never expect you of all posters to understand this or have any compassion.

Oh, I see, you are the one who may pass judgment on all others! Well go ahead, watching you demonstrate the typical Liberal attitude of self-righteousness!

The "holy family" eventually returned to their homeland, if you care to read the entire record, when the threat passed.

And to try to pass off a mixture of economic migrants and returning ISIS terrorists as refugees is a bit of a stretch, as even much of your "progressive" cohort is beginning to realize.

Certainly there are many natives who suffer in horrible circumstances, not all of their own making.

But what you didn't address is why some are making the break with their past and moving forward.

Here's an intersting tidbit for you to analyze: these "progressive" Ontario college teachers went on strike put the school year of many college students in jeopardy. Among those is a young, local indigenous woman who has worked her butt off to pay her tuition fees. Now, she may lose her year.

Who is responsible? The "progressive" Ontario Liberal government blames the teachers' union, and the union blames the government.

                            What's your answer chucky?

Correction: The girl's earning went to her living expenses or whatever, but she is a hard working native person. When the college teachers were out on strike, she took up a decently paying job to keep herself "productively occupied", or whatever term she used.

However, her ambition stands out as exemplary.

So what's the difference between her and those who seem stuck in ruin? Where does choice come into play? Raised in a foster home by native parents who are also working people. So you know her past has not been all roses.
