Yes Russia is coming on and why not? Putin is smart the rubble is low and export dollars are real and very helpful to their country and people. They have the best land but their costs are not all that low and because of the lack of laws and trustworthy government their production will expand and contract year to year.

Debt free or low debt farms here will weather whatever storm there is. And if it gets really bad, there will come along another Mulroney or Devine to take us through the valley as it all get sorted out.

I was hoping you're kidding... but I guess not.

Let's start with the fact that wheat production is increasing the world over... as is the rest of the crops. We are not producing at maximum yield capability in many parts of the world yet, and indeed, many areas have lots of land that isn't even in production yet.

Some sobering statistics.







Now, have a look at world wide use of fertilizer in KG/HA... It's growth in some countries, and lack of growth in others. Lots of potential to increase yields in most of the world...

Sobering thought... Cordoba averaged 8 metric tonnes of wheat per hectare... 118 bushels an acre with an average fertilizer consumption under half of Canada's average. Let that sink in.

Now... this whole thing of "This is how it was, this is how it'll always be"... I'm sure the citizens of the Roman and Byzantine empires thought the same thing... right up until their fall.

300-350 BILLION trade deficit with the USA.

180 Billion with the EU.


And then you have China pumping massive amounts of that same capital that they took from us (export deficits mean you are exporting your currency overseas) into these developing markets in Africa and Latin America. They are looking for food security.






Add to that the fact that Canada and the USA have no capacity to bail out producers - nor the will... It won't happen, we aren't enough people to worry about and they won't care. Look at the suicide issue in the Midwest to see what I mean.

In 2017, Russia will keep the global leadership in wheat export volumes, declared the CEO of the Russian Export Center (REC), Petr Fradkov on December 14. According to him, in 2017 Russia will continue the last year trend of the global leadership in the grain supplies (for the first time in the contemporary history). For 10 months of 2017, Russia exported 24.5 mln tonnes of wheat, while such traditional leader as the USA – 23.8 mln tonnes only. P.Fradkov recalled that the end of year in the USA is usually a low-active period, while Russia still demonstrates record-level shipments. At the same time, other leading countries-exporters of wheat showed even lower results: according to the REC, for 10 months of 2017 Australia exported nearly 20 mln tonnes, Canada – 17 mln tonnes, Ukraine – 14 mln tonnes, France – 12.5 mln tonnes, Argentina – 10.5 mln tonnes. Traditionally, Russia demonstrates good supplies of wheat to countries of the Middle East and almost all African countries. In the current year, Russia started actively supplying wheat to countries of the Asia-Pacific region, but it is too premature to discuss any long-term trend, added P.Fradkov. (APK)
