I don't expect my doctor to know how to fix a car but I am sure as hell happy that he knows how to diagnose an illness.

To suggest that the higher education required to be a doctor means "nothing" is pretty stupid.

So the next time you get sick are you heading down to your jack of all trades, practical neighbor who can fix anything to ask them to diagnose your illness? Or do you head to the local health clinic? Why head to the health clinic if higher education means nothing?

Big difference between a doctor and a women studies graduate.

A laywer and a guy with a BA in classic Greek literature.

A dentist and a political studies graduate.

    Get hwere I'm going?

The game played here is get a degree and work for government. That strategy has worked well in Canuckistan as well as third world S holes for a long time. That is why there is so many degrees out there. I have one too so looking in the mirror here. The value of these degrees is becoming less and less since they are so common. Degree is different than real world accomplishment especially so when government wastes the time of the so called best and brightest. That is why Canuckistan is going down.

Writers course needed around here i guess. Can get hung without precise elucidation.

    Not %100 sure Sheeples' point.
But my son was seeing an "English as a second language" psychiatrist. And now hes fkd up worse. And not necessarily blaming where the fkr came from.
Nor do I blame the birth origin of the two "English as second language" health proffessionals who took things to the letter and pushed my mother out of her home town hospital and into a another town 3 weeks b4 she died.
Common sense... my immigrant worker 3 years ago was such a fk up i begged immigration to send him home. (Booze, drugs, lies, fights, wreckin shit) Hes still here. Hes breeding welfare girls folks, so get ready to pay more taxes.

Canada is accepting legitimate refugees for humanitarian reasons. Not all refugee applicants are allowed to stay.

When millions of people leave their countries because of war, persecution, famine what are the options?

Just like most of our ancestors who came to Canada looking for a better life, modern day refugees are doing the same.

"Statistics Canada noted immigration is an important part of Canada's strategy for offsetting the impact of population aging, which might otherwise lead to a shrinking pool of workers and labour shortages."

Targeted immigration has been a good thing for the Canadian economy. Just think how many of us in rural Canada are dependent on immigrant doctors? In many cases we are getting the best and brightest immigrants that are creating a brain drain in their home countries.

This is a good news story, but it does not fit the myth of many anti immigrant types who think of immigrants as a drag on the economy. To the contrary, without substantial levels of immigration economic growth will be slower or stagnant and many jobs will go unfilled.

I've got no argument with Charlie's paste.

IMHO the "Shithole" countries that Trump talks about are places like Haiti and Somalia that we have been letting jump the Que that don't even have an up and running education system.

The other explanation for the high percentage of degrees amongst immigrants might be the "means test" and qualifications that need to be met before they're allowed to emigrate to Canada. To me it goes to show Canada has an expectation that the immigrants, excluding the refugee style, have the means to be self sufficient and contribute economically to Canada. So in essence, the immigration policy could be seen as discriminatory(just playing Devil's Advocate with that last sentence)

Also those qualified immigrants want to escape the "shit hole" countries they're leaving for better opportunities and cradle to grave socialism even though they were never born here but will benefit from anyway....ok I couldn't help myself that time.
