    Wool Sheepmeat Disposable income

Returns for wool and sheepmeat are at record levels here in australia and may plateau soon.

Lamb is up to $7kg dressed weight and wool $13 to 14 dollars greasy a kg.

Wool is predominately exported as is lamb.

Question is for you experts disposable income in some countries obviously lifting china india and some middle eastern countries.

Another gauge apparently is and dont laugh beer consumption in china follows economic woes and good times.

So despite talk of deflation recession even stagflation correction day i s coming etc doesnt seem to be happening.

Many economic commentators suggest china is really on a slippery slope at the moment.

ps personally i prefer steak to lamb

And other thing for instance my dear aunty on my wifes side a pensioner in her 80s loves to support farmers but she says to me lamb is just to expensive have to eat chicken and pork.

And just on wool clothing it aint cheap but presume in china it is blended with synthetics but again must be buying clothes or population increase there.

Grassfarmer you may have comment on status of meat consumption worldwide and dynamics of it all?
Grass just checked last weeks cattle market yearling steers 330 to 400 kg averaged $2.70 liveweight which equates to what $5.20/30 dressed per kg?

Mallee I can’t speak to lamb prices but do believe they are quite attractive here as well. Your cattle price seems lower compared to here though. Right now those same weights would be closer to $4/kg here live weight and finished cattle would be around $3.50/kg live weight.

How heavy are cattle when they are finished down under? Up here usually they’re aiming for 600-650 kg live weight.

I hope things keep going like they currently are as it allows you to make a few dollars. We were crunching numbers yesterday and right now for us an average wheat crop, average hay crop (for sale), or average pasture (at custom grazing rates) returns almost the the same net dollars per acre.

Just some random thoughts while I’m rolling light barley for the cows at -20😉

That's a very impressive price for wool, here you have to buy the bags from the wool growers ads and you can't put enough wool in to pay for the bag, my daughter has about 100 ewes and we put the wool in a pit and burn it with some brush as it dosent burn by its self. Butcher lambs at app 50 kilo live are in the $4,20 /4.60/ kilo ,good money but not enough volume but in this climate many more would be too much in my opinion but as long as she likes who am I to say.

Wool here is useless. Rarely pays the shearer. So we raise hair sheep. Our lamb is 7 bucks a lb hanging in our direct market. About 2 bucks a lb live market.twice the money as cattle. More meat per lb of feed much faster than cattle.

An extra 80 bucks a head per year would do wonders to our bottom line.

That would be mainly Merino wool?

That’s what I’m thinking. With certain breeds come other challenges, other costs.

Yes merino. But dohne and SAMM are dual purpose some guys have them.

Russia has quite alot of merinos

Merinos have ramboullets blood in them 150 years ago. And peppin from spain.
