Plus you're then fighting winter movement which is terrible in Canada and in the case of canola dealing with a highly volatile easily spoiled product.
Don't get me wrong some storage is a good thing but why you think farmers storing a crop for half or a full year, incurring pricing risk, spoilage risk, and act of God (fire flood wind) risk on that commodity in order for the elevator and rail system to not have to become more efficient is a great idea is beyond me.

What I don’t understand is if it’s so great everywhere except Canada is why klause is still in Canada?
Don’t get me wrong I agree with lots of what you say but you’re fairly young and sound like you’re quite knowledgeable on other countries and how great they are to farm in and how terrible Canada is.... what am I missing?
If I was you I’d have packed up long ago and headed for greener pastures.

It's always laughable when people talk about making it up on volume.....
Reminds me of an SNL"the change bank" skit and the key phrase was... "we lose money on every transaction but we are making it up on volume...."
About the same logic here....making an extra 50 cents from harvest til spring doesn't make a ROI on bins augers snowblowers etc. ....but you can make it up on the volume of equipment and grain you have ....I guess.
And people say I don't know the cost of farming....
BTW I ****ing hate snow ...adds cost to just leaving the house.lol.

The grass may appear greener on the other side of the fence but it is usually harder to mow!
My forefathers left places like Klause describes for the safety and opportunity of where I farm today.
Canada may not be perfect but it's alot ****ing better than some other places, thank you.
Seems only comparisons have been made in farming, how about social programs, quality of life, life expectancy, etc.
People leave their homes fleeing shit to be here, how bad can Canada be?
