Currently feed barley is $250 on farm for feed barley sold via container trade and domestic endusers.

Fowards for nov/dec delivery $246 port equates to on farm around $216/220 decile 8 price over last 10 years.

Im a pig and looking for $240 plus on farm not port price.

See how thing unfold experts seem to think basis will not wane until season breaks and planting starts.

But chinese love our high protien feed barley plus a freight advantage over may competitors

Almost as profitable to grow barley

Saskatchewan average feed barley price was reported at $185.50 recently. Lethbridge feedlot alley $233-245.
Was offered 218 recently which I think is China destined
Canada port values to China have been averaging $296 since September(values from Trade Database)
A lot of this is going into the malt market as I understand it
Vancouver might have the edge on South Australia for ocean freight but of course our domestic costs are a lot more

Do you guys grow malt varieties hoping to have it selected/accepted for malt or grow a feed variety and hope for more tonnes per hectare?

Our distance to feedlot alley and poor luck getting barley accepted for malt or dealing with the GrainCo malt scams deters us from growing barley.

$296/45.93=$6.44......$ay it isn't so......there's quite the basis deducted from that price or is that a landed price?

Can't get a premium for malt because a premium on top of decent feed malt barley on an 80-100 bu/ac crop might have the peasantry getting too rich and powerful. Cash poor farmers are more easily manipulated. Too early in the morning for so many negative waves.....pharma needs to double his meds this morning.

The feed-malt market is the pits this year because everyone has the same good quality stuff. No premium
Guys were selling into this market earlier for $195 which means the markup from pit to ship was about $100

We unloaded the great majority of ours for about $207 so didn't do much better
Oh well, at least there are no worries about making the grade(whatever that is this year?)

Per acre did alright. It is just that there is no pay for the extra hoops to jump through

Have had a series of good years growing malt barley.
Would require a series of bad ones to put us behind.

Farma and other i grow mostly grow feed barley and hope yield will make up for price. Currently feed barley worth more than malt.

Malt can be fickle to deliver as you know, protien test weight screenings retention all have to be right then throw in a few weeds seeds at times which can downgrade.

To hard.

Appears the days of "you can make beer out of any barley" are long gone consumers demand the best so buyers buy the best they want max bang for there buck in malt process.

Most of the shit malt barley lower grade goes to china south east asia and our premium barley goes to japan and at times europe

Malt game was such a bad game it had to come to a end.

didn't take the big dog long to realize good quality feed will make beer for the population. Its not fine wine its beer.

It's a market. It's raising the price of feed barley here at home. Our so called premium malt barley didn't bring any extra so what's a guy to do? I'm sure domestic malt houses are in the black this year. I'll remember that. Also taking some market away from Australia. It's all good

Time to sweep the barley bins now. This market is a result of China trying to pretend it doesn't need US corn but that will not last. China exports far more to the US than it imports from the US so isn't the one holding the cards here.

Is China to mandate a 10-20% ethonal for its domestic use next year ?
