That report recommended emphasis on tourism, sometimes in opposition to agriculture.
PEI farmers were upset that it favoured support for small and traditional farms.
Big picture said keep on getting tourist dollars and encorage agriculture production to move elsewhere.
Apparently same economic squeeze will shut Ag in western Canada, unless population/weather say other wise....wait for it, still waiting since 1972.

The super cluster invests in protein. While increased vegetative protein is a good investment, (providing NAFTA enables Canada could benefite (USA fractionation continues to increase)) but to ship increasingly diversified markets the logistics of the nation will need to serve the smaller shippers. And, smaller shippers scored under 10% of cars ordered to cars filled, while terminals shipping bulk volume were over 80% in the latest rail car coalition report. Hopefully the smart folk can tie this equation together: value add + efficient logistics including rail = opportunity to diversify agricultural economy.

Meanwhile livestock which could capitalize on global markets & consume more forages & grain, continues to decline.

Go figure, vegetarians are in flavour.
