Message to Canadian politicians …
Thanks for trying but do any of you really think that Bill C-49 will result in better grain movement?
More to the point, do any of you think that a contract (aka reciprocal penalties) between a grain company and a railway company will benefit farmers, especially when its -30C and elevators aren't gerring any cars?
Some money might exchange hands between grain cos and railways but I guarantee you farmers won't see a red cent of it.
If anything, we need legislation that ensures more equitable contracts between FARMERS and GRAIN COMPANIES.
How about legislated grain delivery contracts that ensure full payment for contracted grain within 30 days of stated delivery date, regardless of whether the grain has been delivered or not.
Bottom line? Shit flows downhill … and farmers will still the low man on the totem pole, with or without Bill C-49
Pains me to think we'll have to go through this same routine in a few years time.
