Road bans in the middle of "winter"

Well below zero degrees F; frost from surface to many feet below; wind chills below -30 C and some RM's have no exceptions for ignoring road ban signs posted on every road. Not even when the sun isn't shining and it takes a damn heavy skidoo to avoid frost bite in the middle of the daysuitij

That's the kind of local input that no one needs.

Just for balance...at the same time (and for the previous week) the following was issued as a press release.

Spring Road Weight Restrictions Suspended on Provincial Highways
    Released on April 2, 2018

The recent cold weather has allowed the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure to immediately suspend road bans on provincial highways.

“Suspending road bans lets farmers take advantage of the recent cold snap, while also protecting roads from unnecessary damage,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said. “With the backlog in the grain handling system, our producers need to be able to haul as much grain as possible when they have the opportunity.”

Allowable weights are reduced on some provincial highways and roads in rural municipalities (RMs) as roads thaw in the spring in order to protect them from damage caused by heavy trucks. Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure staff continually monitor both air and road temperatures and will reinstate bans as conditions warrant.

Spring road bans typically reduce allowable weights on RM roads and secondary weight provincial highways by 10 to 15 per cent.

While spring road bans are not in effect on provincial highways, there are bans in place in some RMs. Some of these RMs may also elect to suspend road bans in their respective municipalities.

Up-to-date information on any seasonal weight restrictions that are in place is available at www.saskatchewan.ca/business/transportation-and-road-construction/information-for-truckers-and-commercial-trucking-companies/regulations-and-road-restrictions/increased-weights-and-road-restrictions.

So for a 2 mile haul (26 cubes of light oil); through two municipalities couldn't be accommodated in this same time period without unneccessary and ridiculous costs; despite calls to the reeve and councillor for the division of one of the two RM's. Adised there were no exceptions (HaHa) and "everyone has to a permit for $100 per trip; plus a $18.00 administration fee to some Alberta company; plus applicable taxes on the whole deal.

Solution; go cross country on private land. Plow snow and should have constructed a private road network in past couple decades. And in hindsight; it was very doable and would have been a viable alternative for industry and ratepayers alike. Good thing is that it is never too late to expand such a project. Piss on municipal politics when administered like this.
