So another one is taking their ball and going home.

It seems its a daily occurrence in Canada.

Construction of new pipelines is all shutting down or quitting.

The feds think our oil is so bad and don't care if it all comes from Venezuela or Saudi Clean oil. HAHAHAHAHA

This whole experiment in Ottawa is coming to a head.

Jobs and good paying ones are leaving, soon unemployment will go up. Crime will go up, Poverty will go up and taxes coming into the Federal and Prov coffers will all but dry up.

Yet we have a jet-setting gov that's playing all over the world when work is needed to be done back at home.

The carbon tax is Nuts, Totally insane if no one else anywhere is participating.

Play a football game by your self how many will be in the stands and how boring and bad will the game be.

That's Canada in a nutshell.

We have hit a time in our history where the federal gov needs to get back to work come to a conclusion the game plan they are on is not working you cant keep blaming harper it's your fault and do something.

Or Call an Election and let the people of Canada decide if you're doing a great Job.

The situation in Canada rests solely on the Gov of Canada. You created this environment with a crazy system of clean oil yet buying oil from other countries that couldn't care one bit about human life. Hell, they still have slaves and Public Headings and Women Mean nothing.

But the saviour of all women's rights thinks its ok to purchase and support these countries while destroying ours.

I feel sorry for Canada because it is in its final stage thanks to Trudeau and Company 2.0.

A surprise Sunday announcement that Kinder Morgan is halting all “non-essential activities and related spending” on the Trans Mountain pipeline project — leaving the future of the $7.4 billion project up in the air — drew a flurry of furious commentary from supporters of the project and stout defiance from the B.C. premier.

Kinder Morgan pointed to the “uncertainty” created by the opposition of the B.C. government as the reason for the sudden announcement and said it will take until May 31 to consult with stakeholders to determine whether the project will continue construction through B.C. and whether shareholders can be protected.

If the company cannot reach an agreement with the various stakeholders by the May 31 deadline, Kinder Morgan chairman and CEO Steve Kean says it is “difficult to conceive of any scenario in which we would proceed with the project.”

“As KML has repeatedly stated, we will be judicious in our use of shareholder funds,” he said.

“In keeping with that commitment, we have determined that in the current environment, we will not put KML shareholders at risk on the remaining project spend.”


Kean’s statement goes on to note that while the project has support from the federal government and the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan, the province of British Columbia and its government has continued to be a barrier to the project’s progress.

“The fact remains that a substantial portion of the project must be constructed through British Columbia, and since the change in government in June 2017, that government has been clear and public in its intention to use ‘every tool in the toolbox’ to stop the project,” he said.

“The uncertainty created by B.C. has not been resolved but instead has escalated into an inter-governmental dispute.”

What “non-essential activities” are and what they would cost wasn’t made clear in the statement. To date, Texas-based Kinder Morgan says they’ve spent about $1.1 billion on the project.

The Trans Mountain project would twin an existing pipeline, tripling the flow of oil flowing to the B.C. coast from Alberta. To date, the company says it has spent about $1.1 billion on the project.

In recent months, B.C. Premier John Horgan and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley have had public spats over the future of the pipeline, even throwing in trade threats at one point. The pair have regularly traded jabs in interviews and news conferences, with each declaring victories at various steps of the project.

In a Sunday press conference, Notley said the pipeline “must be built” and threatened government action against B.C. if the Horgan government — whom she called “short-sighted” — continued to oppose the project. She called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to act in defence of the project, which the federal government has approved.

“Albertans have been clear: Get this pipeline built. And Albertans are right,” she said Sunday. “Never count Alberta out. This pipeline will be built. Tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars to the economy. Better public schools. Better public hospitals. That’s what this pipeline means for us and for our country as a whole. We have won a series of important and decisive legal victories. The courts threw out B.C.’s last case without even hearing it. And I am confident we will continue to win. We are also calling on the federal government to act in the defence of Alberta and working people in Western Canada in the way they have in the past for other parts of this country. A federal approval of a project must be worth more than the paper it’s written on.”

Notley called on Prime Minister Trudeau to take more “concrete action”‘ to get the pipeline built, adding that legislation is coming in the next few days to give her the power to turn down the taps on oil headed

to B.C. Other retaliatory actions, such as a renewed ban on B.C. wine, are also being contemplated, she said.

Later on Sunday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his support for the project. He’s spoken openly of the economic need for the project to be completed.

“Canada is a country of the rule of law, and the federal government will act in the national interest,” he said on Twitter. “Access to world markets for Canadian resources is a core national interest. The Trans Mountain expansion will be built.”

In answer to your question, you could take a look at what is happening south of the border when a "business-friendly" leader took hold of the reins.

But I know that you would rather drink bile than admit to anything like that being a possibility here. It just wouldn't fit your preferred narrative.

Just imagine, Ford for premier in Ontariowe, Kenney in Alberta, Moe in Sask, while BC remains forever hopeless, but Scheer turns the screws on them...

I agree previous government should have done better. However our current government is doing absolutely nothing useful. Harper should have had these projects approved and already being built....

Maybe that is what they should be looking at? - maybe we have to face the reality that more pipelines are not the solution going forward - these ones being fought over now are likely to be the last built. Who wants to be the last person building a horse buggy factory?

Despite reassurances from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Kinder Morgan Canada Ltd.’s decision to suspend most work on its Trans Mountain Expansion Project signals a “total loss of confidence” in Canada’s investment climate, according to Ninepoint Partners senior portfolio manager Eric Nuttall.
“The time for studies, selfies, and bro hugs is over. We need action. Capital is fleeing our country at the fastest pace in history and will have severe long term consequences. When will we stand united as a country and say ‘no more’?,” Nuttall wrote in LinkedIn post Monday.
Kinder’s decision comes as pipeline, regulatory and political frustrations have reached new heights in Canada. A dearth of pipeline capacity has depressed Canadian oil and natural gas prices and a new regulatory regime is seen delaying projects. The iShares S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index ETF, which tracks Canadian energy companies, has seen about $77 million in outflows this year.

Bucket, nobody is saying oil use for fuel is going to be eliminated but if global oil use is in long term decline because of some uses being replaced by other methods that's a game changer.

I think that would be a great result - for the planet and for the population. No need to pursue increasingly desperate and dangerous activities like fracking driven by $100 oil.

Declining demand for oil should keep the products derived from it cheaper than they would be otherwise in the situations where it is still needed - like your seeding tractor. Should free up some space on the railways for your grain too.

The financial trouble it will bring for Governments is the challenge - but it is one largely of their own making - they have a spending problem not a revenue problem, heck the PCs in AB couldn't balance the books when it was $100!
