Yup. Yet another way to extract more profit from the primary producer

What was that bill Tom 4 was all excited about again ???
And what did most of us say would happen??

Does this fly in other non-free market non-capitalist countries? Does this initiative exist in Russia?

All with the promise of bigger and better things for "everyone".

Some how I don't think the narrative suits the agenda.

With support from our own government of course. Seed it all to grass and let the bison roam. What we produce in Canada has no bearing on the world market anyway.

At a quick glance this was the biggest thing that jumped out at me:

We propose a modernized pedigreed seed system that will facilitate an increase in pedigreed seed
use and a reduction in incentives for common seed production, as new high performing protected
            varieties replace older ones

The most basic rebuttal to that should be that if the new high performance protected varieties are as new and improved as claimed, there should be no need to force them upon us at the expense of any previous varieties, because the economics will justify it. Such as is the case with non-GMO canola varieties, there was no need to force anyone to use them, we happily( well begrudgingly) pay the price because agronomically and economically they can't compare.

you can tell just by the wording, Synergy . we are ganging up to screw you good

even have crop life in there . that arm of the business directs you into the new toll system
              by chem supply and pricing

if they really want innovation , stop blocking varieties from becoming public ,
              when the patents expire.
              ban grower use agreements.

there is no need for them to innovate .
when they control every seed ,
we will never actually own a seed , just a renter of it's use . each year .

just when you figure out how to grow great canola at 2 lbs. seed /acre ..
they will change it , to charge you per bushel at the terminal

with no other seeds available .

you are forced to pay up for whatever seed they have got.

canola all locked up , public breeding dead , big moves to lock up cereals.
then on to the pulses .

old varieties delisted or lost to time or new pests

the whole $ collection system , already set up all the way to port ,

duties paid , every year, for ever , on every variety ,

the labs love it too , they get to test every truckload .

. if they want 25$ lb for canola seed , now ,we can say screw it I will plant pea's , lentils
              wheat .
once all other crops are all locked up too . look out .

when you have to pay 70$-100 / acre for wheat or pea seed .

then the sky is the limit on a canola seed price.

then there is no need to innovate for them, just cash the checks
year after year to eternity .

              great plan for some folks

Once they do have it locked up on all crops and seed prices hit those levels time to pack it in, the game is over. Put the toys away let the land sit idle for a few years let the terminals sit empty who cares, railways don't want to move the product to port anyway. The Ag industry doesn't care about the primary producer except for dollars it can extract from your wallet. Greed is what has gotten us to this point, it's not enough to make billions on the chemical they have to control every last aspect of the business.

Yes but they were here before us so shouldn't they get some carbon credits grandfathered in.

Wow, what a crock of shit.

we had this discussion yesterday. Last crops we have that actually, we hold are Wheat barley and oats. All top varieties that we paid for.

The one crop that is insane to grow is Soy as costs are great if you live in the USA or Somewhere else and like 40 to 60 plus soy. It will pay but in shit hole, Canada paying same for seed as these guys and getting the magic 35 down to 7 I can honestly tell you at the 7 the only winner is the seed company.

Genetics will get us there but paying full bore for shit varieties that we are the test pigs is insane.

Now Canola some of you maybe don't realize we had big yields back in the day try a 45 to 50 crop back in the 80s and seed cost was the smallest part of the expense. You made money.

                    Now flash forward to today.

Get similar or maybe a little less yield. Ok, all you big hitters that just started growing canola your varieties today won't do that without timely rain.

So if all we did was gain maybe 15 bushels at most and probably to average joe 5 to 10 for that extra 100 in your pocket you gave it all to the Seed companies.

So yea if they get their way the game will continue till farmers yes farmers have F#$K ALL left.

Welcome to Canada where its industry first and suppliers second and the shit for brains that does all the work is last.

                    Great System.

As others have stated this needs to be opposed every inch of the way. It is sickening how big business is the chum of big government all the time. How many paid lobbyists do farmers have?

virtually no one stands for farmers.

They want us to do all the work get paid pennies for our product because that's the market yet charge so much that we just have enough rope not to hang our selves.

                        It's sick.

It has to start by some of you not blindly supporting one party or the other based on other issues such as oil or wages. We need to be about us and our issues.

When we hand the keys to the conservatives sask party they know they don't have to do anything for us. And the liberals are pissed off at us so they don't do anything for us either.
Yet we're so proud we voted for the opposition and even if they get in they don't do anything anyway.

Maybe all those check off dollars should just go to making everyone aware of eg hose job and the threat of foreigners owning all the ag in the future. Because that is a very real and very serious threat.

heres a new check off we need; "fund to facilitate the formation of a new country , western canada " , bet the oil co's would gladly kick in also , potash, uranium , etc. , would be more than happy also??
and like vicky said (i think?) "the minute quebec has to start paying into transfer funds , the program will be scrapped . there is only one solution to this ugly mess

Farmers will complain, but then buy all the new varieties because it may give a 2 bushel advantage over their neighbor. Complain about the price of seed some more and wish there was seed available they could reseed.

SeedSynergy knows this. They know you can't help yourself, you will just buy it. Its an absolute marketing certainty for them. Complaining is free, but seed makes money.

Reread this post in 7 years.
