It was Conservative government that established Canadian Wheat Board in 1930’s.
Lost election next year and farmer pressure caused Liberal government to keep board.
Next thirty years board was supported by govts, farmers and prairie pools.
Palliser Triangle Wheat Growers was formed over dissatisfaction about grain marketing policy.
Had front row seat at Palliser convention when liberal wheat board minister Otto Lang spoke.
He questioned Crow policy to maintain statutory freight rates in perpetuity.
Was the start of battle with pools and wheat board supporting status quo system.
Otto Lang lost election and was replaced as wheat board minister by Hazen Argue in 1979.
After that, wheat grower assn members became more supportive of Conservative governments.
