Well, I would say that the 2018 crop is in the ground. The last few around us got done seeding after the rain and the crops are growing. It is true Rain makes grain. But for some Rain makes mud which is a dud.
Funny the big rain event missed a lot of farms. It's not funny I know, It's sad that a massive system that moved it seemed to look like it was going to start and get all of Sask and then only started from Regina East and moved NE.
I have friends that only got maybe a mil and some who have been totally skunked for rain in May. That is hard to believe but its weather Not climate change and its happened before and it happens again. We have dry cycles and wet ones and that's why its called weather.
So here is the crop report for our area.
Peas are up and running even if they're worthless. Hey, shit for brains in Ottawa we got slapped with a 50% tariff on our products and you dressed up funny and partied in India. Where is our compensation you useless fool? Some early peas are beyond spraying past the 6 nodes. Good catch and growing very well. The odd yellow spot thanks to the rain but so far should be ok. We are finished spraying the peas.
HRS is up and some early stuff is getting its Wild oats spray. Fields are really clean guys are waiting a bit to see if we get another flush after the rain. HRS looks good so far. Some yellow in areas with excess rain but good. We might get to the first fields of wheat today if the rain stays away.
Barley is growing like a madman. Nice catch and doing very well. Spraying will begin today for in crop.
Canola is up on early and poking its head out on late. Good catch and rain will help even out the stages a bit. So far Flea Beatles are not an issue. Hey, when the brain dead regulators get rid of a great product give us a useless product and then the companies offer incentives if it doesn't work. Really makes a lot of sense.
Lentils are up in the area and so far like the spring rains.
Oats is last seeded and just in the ground.
Flax is up and looks great.
Organic guys have issues with excess weeds and won't have great clean fields this year.
Pasture liked the slow cool rain that soaked in. It gave it a bit of life needs another good slow soaker.
Funny thing in the sloughs and creeks last winter must have been very hard on bugs and frogs etc. Most water bodies have very little life in them. Well with no snow and cold till march something had to happen.
Overall the rain was such a blessing and arrived just in time Total for 2018 since april is 3.25 in. We only need three more one in June one in July at beginning and exhibition week to finish off.
Looks good so far. Those that desperately need rain I hope you get your wish.
Ok, politics the JT team just keep doing what they do best F#K$ up.
Our Ag minister all farmers love the Carbon TAx.
Moron.
Have a great week and remember the ones at home are way more important than this useless crop that they will take for nothing and you do all the work.
