Just out an hour ago, Trump is PISSED! Dumbo's little new conference after the summit in which he said Canada would not be pushed around. Well that lit the fuse! Trump told his men to withdraw his support for G7 statement and to begin process of putting tarriffs on all Canadian autos.

This is gonna be fun to watch this next month! Little beaver thinks he is more clever than the elephant, but he is going to get his ass flattened.

If the supply managed Industries in Canada lose their protection is anyone on Agriville going to start a dairy or a poultry operation(take your pick of what kind). If you expect prices to drop I'm sure some will be first in line to do it....sarcasm!

I have never begrudged a dairyman/maid their wage. In the old days they wore their knees and backs out and were married to the ****ing thing. Now the methods have become physically easier but the capital needed to adopt the new tech is crazy. The area I live in was a hot bed of small dairies. There are only two left of modest size...and its hard to fathom those two producing more milk than when the countryside was littered with them. The dairies probably consolidated and are located closer to the processing facilities now.

$4.50ish for a 4 liter jug of milk is reasonable in my opinion. We live close enough to the big city we don't have to pay small town convenience store prices.

Ask the people of Hudson Bay Manitoba what happens to the price of groceries when the supply gets cut short. That's not a free market....thats a captive market.

Buy a cow! ...better get two.

To me the dairy quota system is much the same as the ethanol deal.

Transfers the subsidy to the user but still a government mandated subsidy.

The days of it keeping the family farm thriving are long gone.

Beer is not a staple food and going to a stadium is not a critical life necessity, so as far as I am concerned, the price for both can be the sky's limit.

Different than beer at stadium. Cigarette price is not dictated by price of free market, but by taxes.

They sure threw us under the bus in 2003 but will fight to the death of other industries for dairy. I don’t like Trumps antics and two bit art of the deal bully tactics but let’s face it Canada is propping up an obsolete dairy industry in Quebec and Ontario. Where else are 30 cow dairies still viable? On the flip side American dairies are on a race to the bottom to produce their way out of low margins. So before we think punting quotas will make Trump our friend is foolhardy. Give him an inch he’ll take a mile. Canada done away the crow rate in exchange for nafta in good faith USA would stop subsidizing it’s small grains farmers. Never happened.

I think 99% of us here can agree Trudeau and his gang plus Notley in Alberta are a train wreck. People looked for a change and only for change sake. Same can be said of trump. I don’t care what side of the spectrum we sit on but can’t you see how we are manipulated and turned against ourselves, unable to effectively debate one another without it escalating to a **** fight? I’m referencing all political debate in general. The rise of populism is a symptom of a system in trouble of crumbling because well placed bots and trolls have more influence over a lazy low informed electorate than rational thought and discussion. Foreign meddling is real whether Trump was in bed with Putin or not. The master chess player in the Kremlin has his agenda for the world that suits him. Not to mention other interests as well.

Even if Canada is willing to sacrifice NAFTA to save supply management, it doesn't mean the tariffs go away. In fact they could go higher. How long would Fiat and GM keep plants open in Canada if there is a 300% tariff against their auto exports to the US?

How many angry autoworkers are the equivalent number compared to angry French cow tit-pullers?
