Ah farming the stupidest way to make a living period.
Last year our lawn stayed green all year. This year, as soon as that heat hit it turned brown... and it was a lot hotter for a lot longer last year.

Seeing same thing canola turning blue. Peas started flowering and they are only 6" tall... further west of Humboldt you go the worse it gets.

Get west of Prud'Homme and things get really bad. Bare hills, tillers in wheat and barley are dying. Canola turning blue.

They got a good shot of rain two days in a row though, so hopefully helps things for a while.

Problem with "just enough" moisture (and we haven't even hit that yet) is next year will be worse.

Also crops are going into their biggest moisture and nutrient use stages now... Going to need more rain.

....anything I get above average is a bonus, anything below average is a reality check(cheque).

The level of satisfaction with the outcome is directly related to "your" expectations!

The flooding rains in early June packed our land and weaken our canola and that was followed by two weeks of heat and no rain so now the canola has small grayish green leafs and is bolting.

Even though there is lots of moisture down a ways its looking like we will have to get lucky to make average and if it stays hot and dry it will be below average.

Is the blueish color a variety thing?
We have 7444 and nexera 1026 side by side.
Nexera is blueish..but looks amazing compared to the 7444..

Is blue canola related to Mid Row Banding?

Here I am noticing that the poorer crops all seem to be from guys with Bourgault drills (myself included). Looks like the crop has not grabbed the mid row N. Going to be a big yield penalty. Have one neighbor that puts 30N down with seed and the rest down the mid row and he has much, much better crops that the rest of the bourgault seeded fields. Doesnt rain soon it wont matter....

Agreed with above . Last year we held on till July 18th with subsoil moisture. That’s not the case this year , also way more heat and dry this year compared to last year . Totally different situation

We never had heat / moisture stress till the 15th July last year . This could be vastly worse if no rain in the next 5 days

Poorboy, I think you're spot on when you talk about the crop sucking until it finds the mother load of N placed midrow....and if it doesn't rain, the crop might be SOL while it roots down and away from the midrow fert. Rain probably encourages both lateral root growth and gives the N an avenue to migrate towards the seed row as well.

I think the dry weather conditions we faced last year stranded our N as well. We should have seen higher wheat Px levels given the amount of N applied and total in season rainfall...which wasn't much.

I am not sure what all the worry is about myself included. We all paid big bucks for the blue painted super seeds that yield no matter drought, flooding, hot or cold.

Remember last year it was genetics!

Wet either. I threw mine in the bush after two years of n deficiency.

Blue canola is not the biggest issue in this area.
Some that was seeded regular time and survived the hail

Some that was re-seeded prior to the hail due to insect damage.

Some that was re-seeded after the storm.

Wheat is actually looking pretty good in this area apart from this winter stuff.

Looking pretty dismal around here, but we're supposed to be oh so happy that SF3 got his "just in time" rain to "rescue" his lush crops.

Been wondering grass, how has your gray and pasture fared. Has It rebounded after that storm?
