We have a bin yard that is over run with gophers. Any tips on how to get rid if them. Any 3rd party outfits look after them.

poison is available from your RM but it has to put out first thing in the spring. When they first wake up they are very hungry and it is easy to control them.First ones out are the males then the females come out later. The males are out for only 4 to 6 weeks and then they return to their burroughs until next year.By this time it will be the odd female and this years offspring that are making the mess and there is too much for them to eat so poisoning does no good.

Pour a bit of water in the hole and put phostoxin in the hole(make sure the phostoxin gets moist), stuff a bit of paper in the hole(so the ground doesn't cover the phostoxin tablet or pellets) and cover with dirt. Got to close all the holes during the treatment. If any open the burrows later you'll definitely know which to treat again.
It is "registered" for gopher control...no kidding.Last edited by farmaholic; Jun 28, 2018, 17:23.

Don't know if others are aware that Health Canada is currently reviewing strychnine with a view to banning it as it doesn't meet environmental standards due to harm to other species. You can give your input for the next 90 days by following the link if this concerns you.

Guns are the most fun but I dont have the patience to eliminate them all.
I had good success using "Gopher Doom" a few years ago after breaking up 15 acres of pasture.
Bought it at my local Co-op.
Its treated grain, comes in a 5 gallon pail. I duct taped a scoop to a piece of dowel to save the back. Fired a scoop down every hole and then pushed some dirt back in the hole. I think i went back twice and the second time it was complete control.
Also, I didn't see a single dead gopher on the surface. Either the hawks cleaned them up before I got there or they all died underground. (didn't see any dead hawks either....

Farma.
Do you need a licence to buy it?
PMRA - April 8, 2016 - fumigants.
With respect to rodent burrow treatment on farms, this means 30 metres from buildings that are or may be occupied by humans, and/or domestic animals, and that are under control of the owner/operator of the application site, otherwise a 500 metre restriction is applicable.
Inhaled, or ingested, it only takes a few parts per million to cause death.

Checking, yes you need a license(in Sask, I don't know about other provinces). I have one for on-farm fumigation only.
