Took our annual 4th of July pic last evening and was very happy with the corn here. The soys are coming too but lower population than I like. Been very hot here, 30 - 33 daily - what does that mean for flowering. Got 2" about 2 weeks ago, disappeared into the ground like a dry sponge.
In general, there is a big variability in crops across Mid-western Ontario. Some soys are terrible - 50% stand? A few conventional tilled fields are perfect. Corn stalk residue in no-till is a big issue this spring with the dry start we've had to the soy crop - poor seed-to-soil contact. Rain covers a ton of problems and we didn't get it in time.
It's going to take a lot of timely rains to make this crop reach its potential. Here's hoping...

1' 8/10ths since the 1st at an official Environment Canada station East of McKague, although some neighbors just 2 miles away say they are getting close to 3". 4 miles North wetter, 3 miles east wetter. South side of the lake towards Archerwill over 3". Went for a drive on Monday, east of Prairie River to just east of Mistatim, very wet.

Very patchy the last 10 days. Every field had a different amount of rain.
Only .01 inches in gauge at one location
Crop will be in moisture conserving mode for half of the time in the next three days.
Friday night/Saturday morning it will not be able to catch its breath.
Crops not bad now. Will look much tougher in a week.
A chance of light showers on the 10th,11th. Forecasts not in agreement on that one
