Granted that the board said they could not sell more wheat except at a lower price and were depending on the quota system to limit deliveries.

I never want the CWB back but when a country puts a 50% tariff against my product I expect the government to hit them in the pocket on some shot they sell to Canada or help its farmers. Not dance dress up and look like a fool without even taking the ag minister.

A lot of money goes to R&D...

Here is an interesting little factoid from my little farm.

In 2016 I used durum seed saved from the farm....strongfield I think....Complete wreck was sold for feed.

In 2017 I used the same seed that was left over....sold for a 1cwad no issues.

Environmental conditions have more impact than anything else.

would have spraying helped in 2016? NOPE because its was ****ed.

So why are we as farmers having our allotments from governments seized into R&D?

Another factoid.

Side by side fields ...I sprayed my lentils once ...neighbor across road sprayed twice....same grade same yield....he was lighter the cost of spray.

Why the **** do we need higher yielding lentil varieties when no one is buying our product?

The R&D money should be reallocate to better and more pressing issues in Agriculture.

The canola council is probably the biggest pusher for higher yields. they want more yield, because it adds up to more checkoff funds for more holidays in palm springs. They are no different than the grain cos wanting more grain to handle, and the crop input retailers wanting to sell more fertilizer, fungicides, etc. And the dumb farmer ends up with no net gain, only lower prices , more storage on farm, more rail and trucking costs, and increase financial and production risk. And we pay for this R&D. Its fcking crazy. by the way remember to get your canola levies back before the deadline. Last i checked, you cant get the forms on line, they make it really hard to find them if they are there.

Wake up call - there is such a thing as business risk, assuming you can grow a product targeted at a foreign market and always get access to that market at a price that suits you is naive and foolish. Maybe when you're doing your financial planning based on the hundreds of thousands of dollars profit you anticipate getting taxed on you should plan on setting a little aside for a rainy day?
