In a year like this because there was so much wheat in the world the initial would have been someplace around 2.65 a bushel. And a 3-bushel quota. THen for the next two years, they would piss and moan and send you checks to get you close to 6.05. But the price probably was close to 7. Admin took up the rest.

Media always bragged to city people how the farmers were getting money.

    It was our money.

The CWB sucked the life out of western Canada.

The new way is a way better only problem the grain companies should be forced to show sales and dollar figures etc. more accountability.

Don't have to listen to the news to see if you are going to a cheque for another 10% of wheat 2 years after you haul it in ! got rid of a 1000 money sucking employees in the quick order. PFRA pastures in Manitoba hasn't changed still going strong got rid of a lot of top end management that wasn't necessary. And yes if you want trees they still are available to everybody.

      Hello and welcome manfarmer20

what real dollars are you talking about? wheat prices were better in the 70s...6000 bushels bought a new combine .....60000 bushels won't buy you one now....

The PFRA data was so valuable it was worth keeping....it laid the groundwork for many projects....it's the government's job to ensure that data is available for future generations...

The cwb didn't need to be sold to a foreign enduser ...that's bad business. ...

Not arguing just pointing out a different opinion ...must be my age...or I am not wearing rose colored glasses anymore...

Prices in real dollars are not better and this constant shitkicking in the pulse market is getting old....

Don't stay in the past and whine about the neighbor growing a cadilac and you are driving a model T . If you were so smart you could do your own research into new varieties and do all the paperwork to get them established. I can just see the two of you driving around like socialist pigs looking over the fence and whining about the neighbor doing better.

Every farmer is paying for those new varieties through checkoff and railway overcharges and the R&D money that gets redirected there instead of primary production in the new CAP/grow forward programs....if you look at genetic sheet of new wheat varieties...I haven't lately because I don't know if its still public....the old public varieties you talk about are the basis of the gene pool for the new ones.

Reminds me of dad's story of these beautiful black white face cattle at the auction...but the owner of those bwf cattle said to dad "you still needed the Hereford to get those markings and genetics"...

        ...do you understand?
