I think with the pipeline east out was a chicken or egg deal.... sorry about the pun. It was bad. Anyhow govt didn't make it happen previously as industry wasn't looking for it, and govt wasn't in the the pipeline biz. But things changed, margins got hammered, royalties increased, regulation increased, US started exporting and industry said "let's do this or we die". Then Mr Coderre says no way. The only other timeframe in recent history that this would have been feasible was likely 1998 when crude was $12 .... But we were probably importing for $10 then. Guess my point is opportunity only comes around so often and it's a shame to not see it happen because govt needs the money on all levels down to municipal. Think Canadian select crude is sub 40 ish according to BNN today

just proves he is an a hole .
Yes I agree on Barid, never said otherwise. Was just pointing out the hypocrisy on this whole Saudi deal , if we as Canadians are going to champion human rights , and I am all for that , stop Saudi Oil ....... make a point . Don’t just send useless tweets . Saudis have made several moves, planes, pilots , students. Peter Pan needs to grow a set and stop the Saudi oil . But the point is he won’t

Why was it okay to let them in here to potentially take over grain markets but selling oil is a no no? Was there no concerns then under previous government?

              once you do that.

then what if , the Saudis have a change of heart .
              and forgive Canada .
now they want to sell oil 10- 20 $ a barrel cheaper to the east .
              than western oil .

              now what ?
are you going demand by law , the refinery's buy western oil ?

if you say yes , you are a worse socialist than me
well "they" demand that I buy my higher priced fuel and chem in Canada ?

We/ government had no problems buying a pipeline to the West Coast. I can't see the difference in we/ government extending one to the East Coast.

SA is so offended by a loose lips Canadian government tweet that they would stop all trade, except for oil to the East Coast refinery in Canada. Hypocrisy, anyone!

Sawfly, do you have any examples of SA giving a specific refinery an undercut world oil price, just to stop a competitor that bought space in a pipeline from shipping its oil/part of its oil to that specific refinery?

No .I have no idea if the Saudis undercut anybody.
I am pretty sure they would not be happy. if they lost lots of sales.
A big player like they are ,can probably do what ever they want

In 2016 the CEO of Irving Oil went on record that even if Energy East was connected to the refinery it would still import SA oil for competition.

Today, if SA was shut out of the refinery, the US could easily supply missing SA barrels. It would reshuffle where those SA tankers would go, meaning US oil destined for a tariff by China would avoid it at Irving, and SA oil meant for Irving would be rerouted to a tariff free China to make up for a US shortfall. Sounds like a win-win for the US and SA, and a win for a Just get us In Trouble supposed leader in Canada if he would act.

Acting is everything. Trouble should know that. LOL
