Gasoline prices in Canada have been increasing from this decade’s low of 90.2 cents per litre (cents/L) on average in February 2016. In April 2018, gasoline prices across Canada averaged 134.7 cents/L, which is 16.6 cents/L higher than this time last year.

This begs the question: since average energy(gasoline) prices have already risen around 40% in 3 years most of which is due to market forces and not carbon taxes where is the damaging effect on the economy?

On Agriville many posters predict the "end of the world" with higher energy prices caused by a carbon tax. But almost is nothing is said about the damage that is caused by by higher market prices! Why focus only on taxes and say nothing about all the wealth transfer to the oil companies?

" The provinces of B.C., Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec have carbon taxes that apply to gasoline. The B.C. Carbon tax on fuel increased on 1 April 2018 to reach 7.78 cents/L for gasoline. The Alberta carbon tax on gasoline increased on 1 January 2018 to 6.73 cents/L. Both Ontario and Quebec have a cap and trade program which applies to retail fuel prices, including gasoline"

The reality is no one really believes in Libertarianism. It is a fantasy of a few conservative extremists who only believe in a few select Libertarian ideas.

Bernier wants to get rid of supply management but he is not interested in getting rid of regulations that protect big business from competition. Nor does he want to open the border to the free movement of capital, goods or people. He wants to restrict their movement, just like every other politician who is under pressure to protect Canadian jobs and investment. Doing that requires strong government regulation.
