Why pick the 80s? these have all been ongoing issues since then too. Nothing changes under the sun. With your fixation for gay, male politicians I'm sure you already know the first Canadian PM to participate in a Pride event was Joe Clark? Imagine that, a good old Alberta Conservative!

Why should Canadian taxpayers subsidize every farm regardless of whether they need it or not?

Improve the safety net programs, cap them so that we don't enrich the really large farms who gobble up their neighbors. Target the subsidies and support to smaller and medium sized farms before we lose 1000s more.

So many of you guys complain about subsidies to other industries and want government out of the way and then as soon as there is a bump in the road you want to be bailed out too?

Why not? It’s easy for governments to hand money to every other part of society why shouldn’t we get some? Priorities in this world are so screwed we will never find our way back until people go hungry. When there’s always something to eat people fixate on TV or phones or something in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t matter. Governments keep food cheap so people can afford “stuff(shit)”. Why shouldn’t we as primary producers have as much importance and be supported with better prices so we don’t need “handouts or bailouts”. I for one don’t what any help just a fair price for my products. It’s hard to continue in this business when every other part of it always changes the rules or moves the finish line. One thing is common in all of us on this site and that is that we got in this business because we loved to produce a product and be rewarded for our work. Unfortunately it’s always reflected in a price that just keeps us from getting our ass bit by the wolf at the door!

I could be wrong but I don't read it as a lot of guys wanting a government subsidy, more so they don't want to see them in other countries and make it harder to compete out of Canada. Realize that is an impossible reality world wide however.

I completely agree with the point that any of these programs tend to help the large farms, and just like I don't want my tax dollars bailing out the likes of bombardier, I don't think every tax payer should be on the hook to subsidize my farm.

.....all while every other player in the Industry gets to forge ahead? But the Primary Producer is supposed to get left behind? With out Us they're all worthless...don't forget that.

Precisely. No one is forcing us to grow grain. More than one way to farm. Most just don’t get this.
