U.S. - Mexico Trade Deal Will Never Happen

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnbrinkley/2018/08/28/trumps-us-mexico-trade-agreement-will-never-take-effect/#130734ae578d

Many roadblocks for Trump initiating a bi-lateral trade deal with just Mexico. An interesting read . . . .

My bad haven't read the link, but if it mentions the US banks getting access to Canada like Mexico agreed to, yeah that ain't happening. I don't think Canadians realise how many protected industries we have. We are not innocent when it comes to protectionism, it's been alive and well since confederation. Rail, airlines, banking, lumber, telecom, insurance, utilities, sm ..... just need to open your eyes. Forgot about seed and chem.... our seed growers have zero competition and why is folicur imported from Canada worth less then $2/ acre retail in North Dakota?

Mexico needs the deal more than the US so as far as the US is concerned they don't care if there is a deal or not. Underestimating president Trump is a media past time so this is just another anti Trump article. Americans don't care: they are moving forward while the ROW (rest of world) is going backwards and are completely irrelevant. US 3rd quarter growth is above 4%. I do take GDP stats with a grain of salt so what the actual growth is: hard to now. Can find stats saying Canuckistan is growing too but that is a laugh.

Trump won't even acknowledge Canada is a bigger trading partner than Mexico. Trying to pick off Mexico to exert pressure on Canada. Typical Bully.

Believe Mexico and U.S. are rushing agreement (that will likely never be enacted) as right wing Mexican government will be replaced by left wing leader on November 30th.

Loonie continues rising on NAFTA optimism and modest USD pressure. 78 cents or bust? . . . .

I agree with all the points made in article. The worst thing Canada could do is sign a bad deal based on fear we are being shut out when in fact, it is currently impossible under existing NAFTA for this to happen.
And Trump alone cannot end NAFTA nor does Mexico want a deal without Canada included. Time is on our side in this negotiation, time is not a liability.

Reminds me of the CWB debate. Government rushed to get rid of CWB without any thought of the impact of the decision. Gave away assets, gave more power to line companies and rail, and left farmers receiving less of port price than before. Lets not make same mistake here. Yes, we will have to renegotiate terms of NAFTA but lets do it based on what is good for Canada, not good for Trump.

Or the same as the North Korean deal. No details, no agreement, just a photo op that is turning out to be worthless in denuclearization but costly in terms of giving NK political power.

And I agree with errol this quick announcement was all political. Never even had time to have a joint press conference with Mexico president or even get the phones working before going live. I truly believe Trump's ego demanded overshadowing the death of McCain and he jumped at announcing an incomplete agreement (NOT A DEAL) on trade with Mexico. And the media, and Trump supporters fell for it again.

You idiots don’t get it the USA president cares about one thing getting Americans back to work. Canada and Mexico are partners but reality is he knows if Americans are working they spend and are happy and things are great down in the USA.

Most family are happy when they are working and when plants closed and moved to Mexico or canada Americans go pissed.

Obama was a ***** on all fronts and they all hated Hillary that’s why she lost.

              Bully is a stupid comment.

It’s a leader looking after his own people not like our prince fairy dust queen that could t care if Canadians lived or died just as long as he got the money they saved.

USA will win and we are the weak country now that Mexico out smarted is on trade.

But send in a leader with a back pack and crayons and we get what we deserve☝️

To the slow learners out there: Mexico needs the deal and that is why this is happening. Here in Canuckistan, we think we don't need a deal. They don't have dairy SM in Mexico so that was not a road block.

                  ☝️
Easy to get people back to work when the government adds 1 trillion to the debt in the form of a tax break most of which went to corporate and rich. Never has been so much buy back of shares so investors are happy too. But we are now seeing a falling in tax revenues, which was not supposed to happen. More debt or more taxes? And how come wages in the US continue to stagnate in spite of the growing GDP and full employment? Does not make for happy workers!

The US deficit is up this year over last but so is the revenue side so the tax cuts are having a positive effect. Nobody on earth other than me is concerned about budget deficits anywhere. My one criticism of president Trump is that he is not concerned enough about debt, but nobody is concerned about that because budget deficits are up in every country of the world this year especially here.
