    Dave Marit....??????

Said this in the Western Producer..."""..One area he said he needs to brush up on is irrigation and how it works....""""

Be very afraid of that statement because it means dryland farmers are paying for a subsidy worse than supply management...

    Just saying...

    the dumb****led farmer...tm.

Dave paved the highway to one of the most beautiful 9 hole golf courses you’ve seen. It’s one I attend when I can I sure appreciate the quiet scenic drive getting there now. At least the cooler stays in the back instead of flying out like my golf cart did once, he must have heard that and decided to pave it just for me. 🤣

The only fact that matters is this...

If the government/taxpayers are not involved in those big projects ...no one can afford them...

Even in Alberta the government stepped in to bailout the ST. Mary project.

It currently would cost over 8000 dollars per irrigated acre to get water to the quarter line of a expanded project.

The last study done in 2008 stated that to do the Quappelle south project was at 5500 per irrigated acre to get water to the quarter line...another 150k needed to put up a pivot...

The current idea is to give the 5 big projects for a loonie....then they are their own....the farmers can't afford it...and most know it...

So when dryland farmers think they are asking for too much for a little help in the pulse industry ...think again...

          Interesting factoid...

7 million from the FRWIP program was used to twin a pipeline to gain 1000 acres of irrigation....meanwhile hundreds of cattle were dying drinking salty water when they should have been drilling wells for ranchers and community pastures..

Matter of fact ...within 20 miles of that project guys are hauling water to their cattle....but the government can't fund a few wells for supplying pastures????

Who benefits?????about 20 farmers who are going to be gifted a 75 million infrastructure project...that the government will continue to take responsibility for because they used the wrong pipe 30 years ago...

Interesting factoid ...they say they cant afford the water bill but everyone of the 20 farmers has new paint....on almost every machine...so when you analyze this the government is buying these guys machinery...

They didn't buy their capital infrastructure and the government is subsidizing their water bill....

Call the government and ask questions....its dryland farmers tax money that pays for this nonsense while we get less than 1 percent of the charity irrigated farmers are receiving...

If you want daggers stared at you ask this question at an irrigation meeting of the big projects....."""when are you going to get off the tit?"""" hahahaha.

But in all seriousness I have an understanding of this if they send the infrastructure and its bill to the farmers in those irrigation districts ...they are out of business...its unaffordable....I know that ...and then a corporate entity comes in to buy it out and those same farmers or their kids become peasants...

I am torn on this issue of irrigation but the funding model is really ****ed for irrigation in this province....there are plenty of guys that would start systems on their own if given a small portion of the costs and some engineering if done right to last...

Thats a better model to follow because then people understand the money and will invest to make it pay or grow more intensive crops which is what irrigation is for ....its not to grow lentils canola or wheat.
