So Sinopec and the, ahem, ''first nations' are proposing a new refinery and upgrader project for Alberta. Now you ask, if China is as rich as it says it is (spoiler: it isn't), then why do they need first nations in on a project like this? Elementary dear Watson: First nations involvement is to get tax dough to build the refinery for them. Hold on to your wallets. Alberta already has a new tax funded refinery the Northwest upgrader so apparently we are getting another one. Is there any truly private investment in Canuckistan today?

1. First Nations involvement speeds up approvals and environment studies. It also means less protesting against development from first Nations.
2. No. Canada and Canadian businesses can't exist without government intervention. And massive debt. Last decade showed a huge increase in business debt with no or marginal productivity increase...
3. If you were running a business that didn't have a capital asset tied to a nation (land) and you could operate anywhere, where would you go? US? Europe? Emerging markets? More and more since Trudeau came to power business people have said "anywhere but here"
