Harvest

I am curious is there any harvest happening in Western Canada or is it at a complete stand still? We have been at a stand still for 11 days now due to rain.

I was able to go Friday and Saturday and did 24000 bus and had to dry every bushel. It was 17.4 on Friday and 18.7 at the highest on Saturday. Then we got 1.2 in of rain and we are shut down tight. Don't know one person around us who went Saturday. Friday quite a few started at 4 and went till first showers hit at dusk.

This week sucks. maybe go tomorrow if it is less than 20.

It’s been near 20 days here , well with a two day combine window over a week ago.
Fields are wet now here as well but very wet west and north west of here . It’s going to be a long haul even with a perfect October.

Took 18% oats on Sat, have had another 1" of rain since, dryer will be empty today, maybe try again tomorrow.

Fields are now starting to show signs of water pooling, could be back to the ruts of old.

Canola down modestly this morning again! There’s no panic she’s early yet. Won’t need to lock the bins crops still in fields.

A farmer at Wynyard told me he got 1 1/2 inches last weekend, but we’ve had a lot more rain in September some years. I googled Jewish Green holidays and it looks like September is one long Jewish holiday this year. There’s a lot of wheat/durum still standing here and much Canola, even some lentil fields unharvested. Everyone is hopeful for harvest weather with warm, dry westerlies to dry her out but tomorrow wind changes to north - brrr!

Grain prices are worthless and now with downgrading should put the prices lower. Feed market will be full after the dust settles. No pun intended.

To much canola forward priced..

Want to hear something scary... the last time Chicago soybean futures were
in the $8.00-8.25/bu area, canola was trading around $360-370/tonne
(2007)...and that was with soyoil about 2 cents higher than it is now. The
Canadian dollar was at about the same level as now.

That’s puts canola around $8.40 minus the basis.
We made money back then with cheap seed and fert.

No one has gone for two weeks here. I have not yet been able to harvest a bushel, personally. Kinda stressful indeed. Seen this a lot, but boy the forecast is poor. Highs in the singles, rain every few days.

Wish I had seeded barley. It and the two pea fields are all that has been done so far.

A glimpse of the sun would be great already.

Yes that’s the worrisome thing .
Plus the last time this happened, land and rental cost were half or less, inputs 50% less, machinery costs were 1/2 . It’s a far different ball game right now .
Haveing to sit through September is nothing new , but never with this much out or this much at stake is the general take in this area .
