Lucky for us ...some of the saskpulse board members want to grow more ....thats where the research is going....grow more ....a red lentil 20 bpa crop in 2016 at 30 cents for a 2 or better paid better than a 40 bpa at 15 cents in 2018....and they will argue the fact ....these are the guys representing us...I am not shitting you guys....

this is what we have for representation....every ****ing saskpulse board member should have been meeting with Macauley in saskatoon....how many got there....saskpulse should have demanded a meeting....just like the steelworkers did with the industry minister...

Where is our new ag minister for saskatchewan....

You have answered the next question in ag. How to increase the value of what we grow. We need to stop the tendency to get big, more iron and throw every concoction we can think of at the crop for more yield.

Like I said, to be competitive, we need to change our crop mix, our farming methods and our cost structure. Land prices are far from the problem.

Lots of ways to extract higher value crops, but they take serious management. Not this running over 10,000 ac with a HC ever few weeks. Smaller, more intensive, diversified and it might mean some land is idled or in cover crops or some organic.

I have always said this about lentils - they are for poor people with limited ability to pay. Durum is a surprise though as it always had a premium for protein, but its all now considered feed.

          a question

So paying for an irrigation project of 15000 acres to produce red lentils/durum/flax on that land might be a bad 100 million dollar investment plus the regular maintenance and operating costs????

Cant really comment on that. Sounds like a lot of money. Some local processing is probably a much better option when possible.

Should be no product raw loaded that leaves this part of the country, IMHO.

Product leaves here raw because we don't have the population in this country ....thats why there isn't a pasta plant using our number 1 durum because it would look like macaroni after a trip over the roads and all the handling to get to population.

Same with lentils ...the best you can hope for is cleaned and bagged out of saskatchewan....or protein flour but that to will be funded by government in one form or another....

we could make dog food but by the time CFIA approves it and the process it would still be cheaper to buy regular dog food...

Long and short of most of my comments is that if you don't support farmers ...dont support the middleman either ...the guys like AGT or that hollywood director ....dont continue to fund scientists if, at the end of the day, no one wants our products....

OR else come up with a new CCA on bins that is 100 percent deduction and no recapture since we are storing the worlds food for them until they need it...

Although Africa is still starving maybe Trudeau could buy our pulses for a reasonable price and call it the canadian donation instead of writing a cheque to third world dictators to buy guns.

Some of this is simply will to implement. There are pasta plants down east where little durum is grown.

Canola oil and meal, pulse flour, ethanol, biodiesel, forages. Wheat flour. You can buy imported wheat flour from India right in the super market. Why?

Lots of possible products. Once you have higher value products in hand, then transportation costs are much more in line with whats being carried. Some could even now be trucked to destination.

if the pulse growers had a vote to change the mandatory check off to optional, it would have to be changed, wouldn’t it? If all plant owners refused to collect it and record-keep for the pulse board, they would have no mechanism to collect. This is a free country, isn’t it?

Who decided to make it non refundable? All other check off are, although it is a hassle.
