So far this year, most of us have been worrying about the wrong battle as far as the weather goes, so perhaps we are wrong again now.
Other areas may differ, but locally this is what happened:
In March and right up to the bitter end of April we were certain seeding would be drastically late, wet and huge areas would be unseeded due to being too wet. Snow and cold just wouldn't leave.
-Miraculously, 10 days later we were seeding end to end in very good conditions.
Shortly after that we switched to worrying that it was too dry and hot, drought would devastate yields.
-It turned out that those who complained the loudest, also ended up with some respectable yields( or at least potential yields)
Then we thought we would have an early easy harvest with good quality, till the smoke came and delayed everything.
While still worried about drought and it's continuation into next year, constant rain and snow arrived instead.
So since we are all convinced that winter is here to stay, we are probably just as wrong as all year, and instead, a different catastrophe is about to strike instead. Just not sure what is left that hasn't already occurred? Acute diesel fuel shortage just as the weather smartens up? Electromagnetic storm and none of our equipment will run? Is it too late for a locust plague? Asteroid strike? Perhaps Yellowstone will finally blow?
