A local acreage owner is starting to grow hops, maybe he is going to brew his own beer. It’s quite a set-up.

Quite the premise... Will have to pore over the document better when I'm not scrambling to gather up the harvest, but a couple quick thoughts.
1) if they charged $0.01/beer more, and each bushel makes between 300-500 bottles, then that would return between $3.00-$5.00/bu direct to the seed grower. Me thinks that If malt barley were to nearly double, the substitution effect would quickly meet demand.
2) the only way I can see this entire idea logically working is if you assume
a) there will be no substitution effect, because they assume growers will not respond to price indications.
b) there will be no substitution effect, because they assume all other commodities will increase proportionally thereby providing no incentive to substitute acres.
3) This submission attempts to show the costs to consumers if human induced climate change is unaddressed. This relies on alot of computer generated models. Whether those will prove to be accurate or not is anyones guess. Plenty of assumptions get us to where this submission plays out, and if any one of those assumptions are out to lunch, the modeled outcome would be out to lunch. As someone already said, "garbage in, garbage out."
4) It would be useful to show consumers what the price of their bottle of beer will cost if we go fully down the road to mitigating our alleged impact upon the earth's climate. If all farm inputs, transportation costs, manufacturing costs, storage costs, etc, are taxed to the actual level necessary to internalize the supposed externalities of CO2 pollution, what would the true cost of a bottle of beer be? I doubt it would be chump change.

Well that sinches it.
We will grow “malt barley†next year!
We have grown barley once in the last 20 years, expect pricing to correct itself down. Must be end user maltsters and breweries sponsoring this advertising campaign? It’s a dangerous game trying to talk the market up or down.

No complaining now! There was an organization which kept the Maltsters in check when it came to honoring malt contracts. This is how the free market works, which many of you wanted!
Only dumbshits at the WCWGA thinks it's a free market because they advised a ****ing moron (gerry ritz) about a new marketing scheme....without any checks and balances put in place. ....
Any of the dumbshits can feel free to defend their whisperings to Yerry....
There isn't a Canadian grain commodity traded in canada today....Last edited by bucket; Oct 17, 2018, 11:35.

Only focus was on getting there....no one planned the safest best route....and with no real rules of the road to get there

The way I see it it doesn’t matter if the old system was still here or not. We are still price takers. Until all farmers stop over extending themselves and are forced to sell to make payments we are going to remain slaves to the system. Low interest rates and the advent of the leasing programs which was suppose to help our tax problems but only created a Ferris wheel that never stop spinning with our money on it. We do it to ourselves CWB or not prices suck.

Thats a new spin .. I was a price taker under the old system as well.....it used to be the CWBs fault all the time ....Maybe most didnt notice but we need open transparent market from all participants to make it work....farmers tell the world what they grow and how much....now the graincos have to report how much they sell and when....railways have to step up and be accountable as well.....then you can say we are getting closer to a free market ..for now its the farmers fault....
excellent...the rest of the world can starve for all I give a shit anymore....Yemen can beg for help and starve...Last edited by bucket; Oct 17, 2018, 19:34.
