Farmers always talk about quitting until they realize that the only job opportunity for 50 something ex farmers is to compete with new Canuckistanians for long haul trucking. So farming it is. Truck driving is a worthwhile job unlike what many government employees do. Input suppliers know this. Some summer fallow is a viable option in many areas which is one option that will get attention. Around here may try some green fallow along with city sludge for some acres for next year. Selling some land and buying a GIC with some of the proceeds will be option. There are GIC's available for 3.5 and soon as high as 4% out there and some of the principle will be garranteed. Won't get that farming next year. That will also get input attention if anyone actually does it.

Ask for next year.
Rotationed out on canola.
Tired of Malt.
Leaves hrs and cps.
Peas have been excellent for me but in a specialty mkt and not huge acres. Built a bin project myself this year. Taking control of my inventory at last!! Right bucket?
Luckily will be forming an arrangement this winter to form a small conglomerate. Will really reduce the machine and labor costs. Saving enough for a living alone. Risk exposure reduced as well.
Looking forward to next year. More with less.
I never cut back on seed or fert just in case someone mentions that one.Last edited by blackpowder; Oct 25, 2018, 13:23.

Legally nobody can tell me how to rotate my crops on my land. If I grow clubroot resistant varieties and spray some of that sclerotinia discouraging stuff , Im good for probably a decade.
