Fake news. Price quoted in graph is price at generation facility, not price delivered to the consumer. Delivery charge to homeowner can cost a sizable amount. Some bills, delivery is the same cost as the electricity itself. One time I had a monthly bill where the delivery was more than the hydro itself.

        http://www.hydroquebec.com/data/documents-donnees/pdf/comparison-electricity-prices.pdf

This site gives a detailed comparison of electricity prices across Canada compared with some US markets. Detroit is about 2 cents a kwh cheaper than Toronto for large industrial users. 8.21 vs 10.66. It doesn't look like differences in electricity costs are much of a factor in automobile manufacturing.

Nashville is 11.57 cents vs 5.18 cents in Montreal and Winnipeg.

"Tennessee’s automotive manufacturing cluster includes three major assembly plants and automotive operations in 88 of 95 counties. Nissan’s North American headquarters is in Franklin, and its plant in Smyrna is the most productive in North America. With General Motors in Spring Hill and Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee continues to invest in training for the state’s high concentration of automotive employment, a number that’s 4.09 times the national average.

Transportation equipment is Tennessee’s top export – accounting for 22.8% of Tennessee’s total exports. In 2016, 6.7 percent of all U.S.-made cars, light trucks and SUVs were produced in Tennessee.

Automotive-related manufacturers in Tennessee include Hankook Tire, Bridgestone Americas, Calsonic Kansei, Magnetti Marelli, SL Tennessee, Denso Manufacturing, Yorozu Automotive, JTEKT, Mahle, and M-Tek."

One time? in Ontario? the "extra" costs were always higher than the power charge in Alberta.

Partisans always find away to blame the party in power. Its not electricity prices, its not a carbon tax, its not taxation. If it was only these factors, then GM wouldn't have closed 4 plants in the US.

Yeah we have been bleeding jobs to China, Mexico, and other even lower cost countries.

But at the same time we love the free market and all those lower cost consumer items. If you want to protect jobs in a free market economy it requires government intervention.

Just like Jason Kenney wants to impose a production quota on Alberta oil.
