Peter Lougheed charged higher royalties, got Refining going for the oil sands. He insisted that development should be SLOW so NOT to overproduce . Built the Heritage Fund up
Then comes Ralph and Alberta has the lowest Royalties in the World, spends all the heritage fund sells off crowns to get rid of debt
No Royalties collected on oilsands projects Till the projects are finished- which creates add ones ,so royalties Don’t Start
Ralph was the Best Premier, oil money could buy
Alberta’s Problem is Caused by Government Policy than lack of pipelines . There NEVER should have been this much oil development in th3 oil sands Without refining capacity as Peter Lougheed imagined
Pulled directly from the 2018 NEB report on refinery capacity in Canada.
Canada is the seventh largest crude oil producer in the world. Despite this, Canadian refineries process less than 30% of that crude oil. (Figure 7) This is mainly because of the size of Canada’s refining industry compared to the resource size, the location of its refineries, and the lack of cross-country pipeline connectivity. Canadian refineries operate mostly to meet domestic needs, with some exports.
Either we should never have allowed 70% of the crude output that we currently have to have been approved, or we would have to build more refinery capacity to sell into the export market. And guess what that export capacity would require? Infrastructure to get it to market in the way of pipelines to the coast, or pipelines to end users stateside. Just in case anyone needs any reminding... How are pipelines crossing provincial and national boundaries going these days?
We've advanced a long ways past the NIMBY model, and it would seem for most everything we've gone straight to NOPE and beyone!

And as far as where all of our conservatives have gone? Not that I like it much, but they've all peaced out! Jason Kenney, call him whatever you may, is one of the few left on the stage in this country.
They've peaced out until such time as the country's citizenry thinks it'd be worth their time to run again. The next election is Justin Trudeau's to lose. IMO it always has been. He's as close as we get to royalty in this country. Why he's elevated to that point? Again, IMO it's certainly not based upon his merits, but anyone that would consider themselves a player on the federal conservatives stage isn't going to sit in the HOC for 4,8, or god forbid 12 years, waiting for Trudeau's image to be sufficiently tarnished enough to make a run at federal leadership.
Honestly, conservative dirt just isn't that fertile in Canada at the moment.
-Deficit spending while the economy is growing is simply shrugged away.
-The private sector has been thoroughly demonized as glutenous beasts that aren't paying their fair share.
-Identity politics is HUGE!
-Government intervention, regulation, and taxation is embraced even encouraged.
-Trump is a sitting US president.
-Everything is thought to be racist, sexist, misogynistic, (add anything and put an "ist" on the end of it)
The headwinds are immense, and politicians seldom want to invest the time to change opinions, attitudes, or perceptions. They simply want to capitalize on a change in opinions. If you look at recent polling, the short term, and medium term prospects in Canada just aren't supportive of that.

The vision for any politician these days isn't past their out of joint nose.....
Where are my MPs on this royalty issue....crickets....
I doubt I could call my MP about this and get a response....
And because of that its a easy sell job for the liberals....
WCWGA support the royalties on seed....they support conservatives MPs ...therefore if you want any heavy lifting out west on this issue ...you are shit out of luck...
