Poor atitude on Agriville

He was being backstopped by Andejelic ...one of the largest landowners in Canada....he is just the manager...its an investor farm....

I saw a clip somwhere, probably facebook, it was a bearded guy. Im probably getting my progressive, positive attitude, successful organic farmers mixed up but somehow I understood his 40,000 acre farm was started from scratch.

About 13 months ago I paid a younger hired helper for the summer, I provided a house, paid cash, on time. Didnt exactly work him too hard, I allowed him some time to pursue his interests, and a no cost 10 days free time in my shop to fix his vehicles. About 4 hours after departing, he sends me a text telling me to “piss of with your shitty attitude”.
Same fellow returned after harvest to get his stuff out of storage at neighboring town. I made supper we had a basic chat, he had a shitty summer bouncing jobs with shitty employers who dont understand what its going to take to keep good people working for them. I worked basically alone, planted very late, caught the rains and grew a respectable half a crop.
There are times when shitty attitudes hurt feelings. Life, in general, is really not that easy.
The truth hurts, lies dont hurt. So its best to identify the ugly parts that are on the horizon in order to assemble some kind of contingency plan.
It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener at war.
James, I am happy you made the trip to Omaha change the scenery and meet some enthusiastic farmers.
It has been awhile since I inquired but I am quite certain the US grain farmers have their variable costs of production covered via the LDP loan deficiency program.
I read AV to make sure that I am not totally out of touch with reality in Ag. I like some contributors and not fond of others for various reasons. Most of all I believe that we still live in a free country and have the right free speech.
If you do not like the attitude on Agriville it may not be for you.’Discontinue, disengage find different and better. You have the right to make the choice. You can also engage more frequently with positive, encouraging news and statistics. The laws of attraction do work. You may decide not to waste your productive energy on AV.
I definitely encourage travel to experience different views on life.

My father was pessimistic at times and it drove me nuts. I said I would never be that and years later here I am pessimistic as hell. I quess my memory of the 90s 80s 70s are still near by. If I could turn the clock back to the 80s I would in a heartbeat. Opportunity to build wealth back then was great. Cheap fuel cheap fertilizer grain trucks where cheap really short haul to many elevators. New machinery less than some repair bills now days. Land in the late 80s cheap. If you could turn a wrench everything was fixable out in the field. Everything paid for in cash and if there was a crop failure you could pay bills by getting a job on the rigs during the winter. Looking back you could buy a full line of equipment including a truck and car and support 2 1/2 family’s on a 1/3 of the land and had time to play-baseball hockey and take a summer vacation all for the price of a new combine today. I really don’t think my kids or any of the future generations will have that opportunity. That’s what makes me pessimistic about agriculture.

Great post, My intention of the original post was my observation of what the Commodity Marketing forum had become. Back in the day I believe the idea was to be a good place to talk marketing. I see that my statements touched a nerve and I'm sorry it was taken that way. Everyone has different challenges facing them on the farm. What is small to one is a huge issue to others. There is that saying ," Don't sweat the small … stuff and its all small stuff" that I like to follow. Thing is for me is that after dealing with cancer for the last 6 years and getting through it, the feeling in getting back on the combine after a stint in the hospital gives me a happiness that makes much of the crap we as farmers put up with pretty small and I wont be dragged down by it. I love farming. I do know the realities of the farm life today are taking a real strain on families and I do encourage those that are in a dark place to talk to others about getting some help. I do feel that a positive attitude and desire to find tips and ideas from posters is more helpful. Again Merry Christmas everybody

The commodity forum has become a catch all for all topics, some not even agriculture. The renewable energy subject can go on and on for ever, people won't let it die, but no one wants to talk about flax prices.

I could think of worse places to spend some of my time!

Local big farms are still going full speed ahead..wheather it's paid for or not is their business.
The flipper farms are still flipping.
Land sold for 350 thousand a quarter just a few weeks ago..

Its simple economics even for the BTOs....

BTOs want to harvest and leave. They hate having to go back to deal with straw. That's why its been a great crop for us little guys who have a little more time and patience. Hope they don't come in and fk it all up now.

There is no doubt there is something ominous in the air. You can just feel it.

You know there are headwinds, they will eventually bite. Carbon tax, other countries breaking land, trade wars, regulations etc.

Was there much #1 Flax harvested this year? Many samples we receive have like 30% black kernels.

30% dark kernels will still probably crush for Industrial oil.

Why can't the flax straw be "milled" into biodegradable landscape fabric. Instead of what ever they're making it from now. Can you imagine if there was real value passed on to producers for flax straw, instead of practically giving it away otherwise. Would a plant like that be a viable thing? Would there be enough feedstock for it?....there would if we got paid enough to entice more acres and it added to the grower's bottom line. But seems those ventures can't exist unless they get the feedstock nearly free.
