Should we join the rallies with equipment.....

To show our support of the energy sector...beginning to think this isn't about western Canada anymore but about how disconnected the government is...

We maybe wealthy as someone said in another thread but we spend a lot to help the economy as a whole...

I think its bad enough the dealers might let a few farmers use some equipment sitting on lots for a rally...

If we don't support them I suppose it pretty stupid to think they will support us....

And it sounds like there are still a few farms using oil patch money to subsidize the operation....

    Just some thoughts....

    A weekend conversation...

Was in Estevan this afternoon,,,big yellow vest rally/parade, probably lasted one hour. Every oilfield semi, service trucks, 1/2 tons. from Estevan and some 50 miles away. A few ag related trucks(custom haulers), was thinking as I waited for the parade(police escorted), farmers should be in there with their semis too. Need some signs, "Carbon Tax Hurts Farmers", "Carbon Tax = Higher Food Costs" Might go next rally with just a pick-up, but will make some signs to get the message out to those with blinders on(not many that way in Estevan between oil, coal and farming), sorta preaching to the choir there, but just the same.

CTV was there, so we'll have to see what coverage they give tonight.

Maybe not all farmers want to demonstrate their support for the oil and gas industry? Lots of farmers would rather support the "alternative energy industry". Last time the patch was booming sure didn't help real farmers any - put labor rates through the roof, got to the point you couldn't get any business to work for you without waiting a month and increased fuel prices. The oil patch booming was purely negative to my business and way of life - in increased their desire to do stupid stuff like blanket fracking and let's face it they didn't exactly help themselves financially. Pissing away insane amounts of money at every level from workers personal spending to the top of the corporate tree. Big money into corporate bank accounts in Houston but really not even that much tax revenue going into Canadian or Provincial Government coffers.

Suggest if your in a convoy not to tie up all the lanes like in edmonton . it inconvenienced a lot of people.
Ottawa is where the demo should be. Remember Nick Parson{ i think} drove his combine to ottawa. That got attention. I believe he even had a drink of scotch with Chretien.

Convoy to Ottawa is already in the plan:

          https://globalnews.ca/news/4783447/alberta-grassroots-group-convoy-ottawa-pipelines-oil-and-gas/ https://globalnews.ca/news/4783447/alberta-grassroots-group-convoy-ottawa-pipelines-oil-and-gas/

Grass, this isn't about one industry against another, this is about a federal government against all productive industries. If you think you can sit back and watch our energy industry be destroyed by ideology, that our own industry won't be targeted next, then you may need to research some history. Can you imagine what our tax bills will be without oil and gas, as just one example.

AF5, You need to get out of Alberta more and gain some perspective. It's really not that big a deal on a national scale. Only 11% of GDP in 2017. Tax revenue it generated in 2016 was only $10.3 billion - 3.5% of total Government revenue. By the stories on here you'd think it was 85% of the Canadian economy.

The current oil and gas woes are not politically created, they are the result of a downturn in global oil prices, something Canada is particularly vulnerable to due to their high costs of production and lack of foresight/planning/investment in infrastructure during the good times.

                From this 15 years ago..

Exactly they've done nothing to innovate....

                To this ...

                And finally now this...

Solar and wind can't touch this innovation

Edit. Posted in wrong order but you get the idea

One of the largest wealth generators isn’t a “big deal” to the socialists?
Where do they figure their social services and equalization payments to Quebec come from?

Yes, supporting theses patriotic anti-carbon tax, pro-pipeline rallies is a good idea.

The environmentalists, David Suzuki society and the NFU obviously are opposed.

Holy crap Macdon. I didn't realize how oil well drilling has evolved. How are all those "tentacles" underground plumbed together? No wonder modern drilled wells are not long lived(I think). Compared to the old days before even "rudementary" horizontal well drilling, where they just put one verticle pipe into a formation....probably very low production but over a much longer period of time.

What also rattles me is the potential length of the horizontal legs. Looks like it could be a very long way from the well site pad. When do offset mineral rights(?) come into affect. Does the Government police this using the well driller's log?

Pardon the lingo...I don't know the correct oilfield terminology.

Sorry for questions and post kinda unrelated to the thread topic.

Fancy graphics Macdon - does it help them get the product to tidewater?

Oliver88, not as big a deal as it's made out to be. The taxation only accounts for 3.5% of Government revenue.

Farma, these long horizontal legs are the oil patch's dream - let's them drill underneath anybody and leave the landowner with no rights.

Grassfarmer I remember reading an article in the National Post by Tristin Hopper. He was looking at Statscan data from 2016. In that year Ottawa recieved $49 billion in corporate and personal tax from Alberta. By comparison Quebec only contributed $50.3 billion to the Feds with a much larger population. This is where it gets interesting though, Alberta recieved a total of $27 billion from the federal government in that year and Quebec received just over $66 billion!

It seems to me you used to live in the Rimbey area, correct me if I am wrong. It is certainly unfortunate that your not a fan of the O&G industry. Many oil leases on our land and have never had any issues. Many friends employed in the oil industry, most have taken large pay cuts to stay employed. There is no doubt in my mind once the enviros gut the oil industry, industries such as farming will be in their crosshairs, just a matter of time. Enjoy your day.

So it's the "enviros" gutting the oil industry now Hamloc? are you sure about that? - the previous posters were blaming it on the Liberal Government despite the fact the biggest drop in recent years came in the last year and a half of the Harper Government. How about considering it might just be market forces?

In 2017 the 5 largest oil companies made 13.5 billion in profits. Yes go freeze your ass off for these big corporations at least you have your priorities straight. Why not get arrested while you are at it. Husky and ESSO need you.
