Ukraine: planted areas under winter ****seed for the harvest-2019 increased - In Ukraine, the planted areas under winter ****seed for the harvest-2019 totaled 1.3 mln ha, an increase of 28% compared with last year, and reached the maximum level for 9 recent years, declared the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The general areas mainly increased, due to the similar upward trend in all major oblasts-producers, including Odessa oblast (up 36%), Dnipropetrovsk oblast (up 33%), Kherson oblast (up 45%), and Mykolaiv oblast (up 2 times). According to the oilseed market analyst at APK-Inform Agency, Julia Ivanitskaya, for three recent years the oilseed planted areas demonstrated the upward trend, due to the high profitability of production and demand rates from crop exporters and processors. ****seed is one of the most expensive oilseed crops in Ukraine, which stimulates agrarians to expand the planted areas, she said. Wonder what their rotations are? No club root? Diseases? Way warmer winters.

March canola contract is right at support at 1PM.
A close below 480.70 would not be good. As it is, any recovery will likely be rather small for the next while.

It was bound to happen. Another competitor. Just hope growth of demand and new uses will offset gains in production. The world has grown some large wheat crops but it seems like the stuff gets used. Wonder when we see peak demand or peak production for now? Relative demand (people who can afford it) grows slowly compared to those who can’t afford it. The conundrum we have here is we have no hope in hell competing against low cost producers in better export positions bankrolled by large corporate concerns when our biggest impediment is what they have to their advantage. Unless ag here can do something different, better, or cheaper we will die a slow death without even knowing. Until transportation issues for all commodities are addressed we are ****ed.
