Isn’t most if not all land in Scotland owned by 500 people?

It's said that half is owned by 500 - but much of that is of little agricultural value. Highland estates of 40, 50 or 60,000 acres used for grouse and deer hunting and maybe running 1200 ewes. The Duke of Buccleuch is the biggest landowner at 215,000 acres.

Makes more sense of it. Lot of waste type ground up in those hills. No wonder highlanders were so ornery. Kinda a Mad Max scenario.

            Is FCC still bullish?

Edit in...that parabolic line looks precarious
Great chart, it would be good to see an updated chart.

Interesting to see how/if higher interest rates have changed things.

Updated to 2018 dollars, using Les' original data (which is very close to FCC provincial averages) plus their 2018 #s.

Contest, Name the intersection point of the two graph lines on the second chart....

                          The lines are very linear.

What surprises me is the most recent(average?)farm size. It must be a reflection of land ownership versus farming enterprise size?????? What's up?

When you look at the year of the intersection and relate it to the chart above it, I would call it "Sask's Agricultural Heyday"!

The trump card that has yet to be played is the opening up of all Canadian farmland to non-Canadian investors. Until that happens productive Canadian land is cheap compared the rest of the world. The world is awash in currency and liquid assets that will one day look for a place to hide. Farmland and gold are two of the best safe havens known to man - each with their benefits and weaknesses. If nothing else, I enjoy the smell of the soil being tilled in the spring and the thick lentil dust on a warm August night.
