Agree, the same usual group that floods our health care system will still get priorty and abuse the system at the tax payer expense. it is quite sickening when someone who rarely uses the system, has to go to the back of the line and then wait two years for elective surgery. this system needs, at the bare minimum allow more private services for those that want to bypass these two year waits.

Thats the way its gone in Britain - free to the unemployed, elderly, pregnant, children, low income etc so only about 20% pay the fees. There they have the option of private service - typically if you need an operation you can get it fairly quick - the operation is free but the recovery stay is paid for by the patient in a private facility. That apparently is the shortage in their system - they have the surgeons and operating room capacity but not the hospital beds and nurses to use them fully. Seems to work Ok.

Health im no expert.

Australia we have universal medicare which i think is 2% of taxable income.

Low income unemployed aged disabled get free health care.

I go to a doctor its $65 for a consult so govt is paying a portion.

Surgery etc for is 85% govt funded patient has to pay the rest huge huge waiting list for surgery again except for low income etc as above they pay zero.

Private health cover encouraged by govt and they pay 30% of premium but its a sliding scale income earners of $140,000 and above have to pay for own private.

I pay $387 per month for private and get $1200 back per year but no waiting on surgery.

Cheaper than worker accident insurance.

Back in the early 70's I was fortunate to get one of my first jobs in a start up Pea fractional plant.

A direct result of the 60's space race.

I think it cost him $175 at a time when nurses made $4 hr.

We needed a high capacity protein tester as we were using one that you poured reagent thru and looked much like a moisture tester. Had to calibrate every 5 samples.

Two former Vietnam Vets/former NASA workers brought in a huge digital scanner that as leading edge never seen before.

NASA had far reaching effects in those days and touched us way out in the boonies.
