    Apple... on China...

'"While we anticipated some challenges in key emerging markets, we did not foresee the magnitude of the economic deceleration, particularly in Greater China," he said.'

Apple has rattled investors with news that its sales have been slowing, blaming economic weakness in China.
In a surprise disclosure, the iPhone maker said it anticipated revenue of about $84bn (£67bn) for the three months to 29 December.
In November it forecast sales of at least $89bn - a prediction that had already disappointed investors.
Apple's share price sank more than 7% in after hours trade, extending its more than 28% slide since November.
Apple's warning about a Chinese slowdown has reached certain luxury retailers with large Chinese customer bases.
Burberry is down 6%, Mulberry 4% lower, and LVMH, Hermes and Richemont are 3% lower.
The festive season is typically Apple's strongest quarter.
But revenue of $84bn would mark an almost 5% fall from the same period last year and represent the firm's first year-on-year quarterly decline since 2016.
In a letter to investors on Wednesday, chief executive Tim Cook said the firm's sales problems were primarily in its Greater China region, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan and accounts for almost 20% of its revenue.
    Not good for commodity prices...?

Apple approaching $450 billion collapse in market cap since 2018 highs exceeding 1 trillion. How quickly the mighty fall . . . .

U.S. manufacturing data just released . . . dismal . . . adding pressure to stock fallout. U.S. may already be in-recession and not even know it.

Errol how is the declining output happenning when the job numbers supposedly are up?

The confusion about apple is that they are losing market share to superior Chinese electronics. Nobody wants to say that but it's what's happenning.

What a shock. You make iphones in china for 10 yrs using US R&D and poof China magically produces phones that are a fraction of the price and puts you out of business. Apple and other shot themselves in the foot. Basically taught a foreign country how to be their direct competitor. No sympathy for them.

U.S. unemployment reported at 3.7% isn't remotely accurate (IMO). Twig the parameters of employment and U.S. employment quickly sprints to 8.5%. It's all about who you count and who you leave out . . . .

            U.S. manufacturing drop a shocker this morning . . . . .

Why are job vacancies at 10 year highs in the US if there is so much hidden unemployment?
People not qualified? Prefer not to work?

Ever watch the Dragons den show. Those people basically laughed at how stupid someone was if they wanted to produce their product in Canada/USA and not in china.

That's what made most of them super rich but will it cost our entire society int he future?

Agreed. China is famous for reverse engineering and duplication. The average citizen expects to buy counterfeit goods at a fraction of the price of the genuine article. This includes movies, music and any electronic household device. It is now their culture.

From a Canadian farmer point of view, it doesn't seem much different than when Canadian government Institutions, Canadian University Agriculture Depts, and Canadian Grain Farmers kick in money to develop new cereals, oilseeds or pulse varieties, and in no time, those grains are grown in other countries that we as grain farmers(which we have contributed in funding via taxes and/or checkoffs) compete against. Does it hurt the government,,,no. Does it hurt universities and researchers,,,no. Does it hurt farmers,,,of course.

It has been said that the only product Apple has that makes them money is the iPhone. With that said, it’s a tough sell to convince people to buy a new $1000 phone every year for no other reason than to have a new model number.
Coyote fur prices are taking a hit because China has slowed down buying Canada Goose jackets (with fur trimmed hoods) due to the executive cyber terrorist spy lady (or whatever the story is) in Vancouver was arrested. Haven’t seen that hit the news yet.

                            Grain and Feed;
'A senior Chinese official said the country will move to produce at least 600 million tonnes of grain in 2019, reports Xinhua Net.

The country also vowed to keep its grain sown area stable at 1.65 billion mu (110 million hectares) next year, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu said at a work conference.

To boost grain production, the country aims to cultivate 800 million mu of high-standard farmland by 2020, he said.'
We are very small players in the grain markets... either we become more productive.... China, India, and Asia Pacific now dwarf western Canadian Ag...

Tom . . . this also doesn't reflect China's rising influence on Africa and potential African production.
