Shoot me a message where you're getting that if you don't mind. We've been paying more like $3.50 on Alfalfa and $4.50 on orchard grass and that's only getting common seed. Big name seed companies are quite a bit more than what i'm quoting too.

Sounds like we don’t need a seed tax on alfalfa is certified has that much of a markup.

Friend of mine told me the other day a friend of his .... not giving the location paid $3200 ac for some new property. Would like to se this guys list of crops where those numbers will work.
One word of advise if you are paying this or in this range or $100 or more cash rent quit bitching about high inputs, machinery costs, commodity prices, etc those are the least of your worries.
It’s getting to the point where a person should think seriously about exiting.

Comparing spuds to durum or lentils is like comparing apples to oranges.
There will come a time where one is going to have to start seriously thinking about cashing in. Hate to be a procrastinator in a time like this, hoping for an extra 100k.

At those numbers I am surprised a quarter is only a million (if revenue can pay for it in a year). But I am sure that specialized equipment is likely grossly expensive.

Jazz, can you elaborate on Pattison being around here? I haven't heard of this before.

Pattison backs Monette farms and owns consolidated dealerships around the province now. Some of these big players are then renting land back to smaller farmers on the condition that they buy inputs from them and probably eventually be under the condition to sell the crop to them as well. Kambeitz has a facility located on a track siding down by Lajord.

Monette bought 3 or 4 sections around me couple years ago south of regina. I am like a little pissant around these guys.

You are going to see single facility operations. A grain terminal with a machine dealership, inputs company, land rent and probably financing too. One stop shopping. Thing is probably backed by investors in Toronto. Serf sharecropping all over again.

Line companies doing the same thing here as Paterson , have been for a decade.
All in or out , they ship your grain and grade accordingly.

hopefully give next generations a chance at freedom and a chance to create wealth. Where do you want your kids and grandchildren to be ??? We are headed in a bad direction now again. As pointed out in the last post.

We all bitch and complain , me probably more than most ... but don’t piss it away for our kids . Look around this earth 🌍, where else are they going to make a living if we give it away to Monnette farms or the Huts or whoever.
We all know working for someone else creates zero opportunities to create your own wealth , or you kids or your grandchildren.

Regardless, we need to look at other crops to sustain farms. Growing crops that fit the current system is not sustainable for farmers here anymore. It’s only benefiting the Ag industry as it is.
We need solutions on this site ,
Not excuses . How do we remain sustainable for our next generation without giving it all away .

Blackbeans blew everything away here this year .
Next year may be different, but Blackbeans are in near every meal now .
Wheat is not , canola is not . Every “Next Gen” hates wheat now , and GMO anything is fukin terrible in their mindsets.
Peas , well we fight a challenge no one wants to admit so they are dead. Fussarium root rot , not aphenomicis.... the links are there but heads stay in the sand . The pulse growers themselves have zero balls to admit the issues.
Flax remains a cheap crop to grow and going forward, the ag industry is going to be taught a lesson ... high input , high intensity, high risk does not work in a high risk environment with shit crop insurance.. the fall if 2018 should be a nail in the head to all to never forget that .
This is not Iowa or not all of Canada is the red river valley for profits to be plundered.
Also , admit it or not , oganics are here and now , and we better pay attention.
That movement is shaping the way we all farm regardless of any scientific evidence or facts . It’s here and in our face , the consumer is demanding it .
It used to be a fringe ... it is main stream now wether we agree or not .. not our call .. it’s the consumers call.
