Most people really like wealth transfers so long as it benefits them. In that way every one is a socialist. One of the biggest wealth transfers in history was using central banking to transfer wealth from the poor to the rich through manipulation of interest rates. Most farmers are also real estate speculators and so benefited from that one. No one in modern day Canuckistan knows what free enterprise looks like any more and likely would not do well if it showed up. Look at the calls to cut rates once asset price started to fall last quarter. So for most of us, if you want to see a socialist: look in the mirror.

The answer to corporate cronyism and corruption is well thought out regulations, not socialism. I have never seen a govt bend over backwards to save a 3rd rate company like SNC.

Cortez is a goof, nut ball extremist, but she did hit some points about Amazon you cant deny. This company is eating retail all over the planet leaving scorched earth in its path. So it creates 25,000 jobs but displaces millions somewhere else and still doesn't pay tax. Hard to get behind that.

Part of it is this millennium group and some newcomers like the idea of a free ride in life of others that gets promised by far left socialist thinking .
Until the money runs out and then as Sask farmer has pointed out in the case of Venezuela.. it falls apart when no one creates wealth to pay for any of it .

I think the problem is that too many citizens don't know/understand, the extent to which, they need to be taxed in order to pay for all the "free" public services which are available to them and or others, that they receive right now. What I mean by "available to them or others", would be something like Medicare,,,where even though you haven't used the system for 5 or even more years, you still pay each year in taxes, just for it to be available to you.

People paying $10,000 - $20,000 in taxes think they are paying their share, but it doesn't come close to covering all the government costs, for all the available public services to them and each of their family members.

I believe the number is closer to $50,000 per year in Prov and Fed taxes to pay for your proportional share. A lot of people don't even make that much money in a year.

Also don't think the large portion of citizens that believe the wealthy should pay more realize how many of their own families are already subsidized by the wealthy and how risky it is to make a tax and economic environment unfavourable to that class. Their request longterm may actually leave less money in their jeans.

Easy way for governments to get ownership of everything thing including your land. Even if everything is payed for they will tax you out of it. It will just take a we bit longer. This is what happened to my grandparents and I thought it would never happen here.
