Cullen , Angus , Rankin are strong voices....articulate...I don't care what party they belong to....at times they are very much worth listening to...

Ideology is a very bad thing to be blinded by....do I agree with everything they say or stand for ???? nope ...but I can listen to the other side with guys like this...

And don't forget on the SNC affair ....the NDP and conservatives are of the same opinion...this is a scandal that matters because it speaks volumes on our judicial system...

For the liberals to put the Duffy scandal in the same realm as the trudeau/SNC scandal is ****ing retarded....

sawfly if you want govt to do something for you then vote NDP. Conservatives are about turning the dials so govt doesn't have to do everything for you. That's the difference in the parties, not who will do what for me. That sounds just like the socialists.

But they can't say it's due to a towel - that's not PC.
This kind of drivel exposes you as an asshat and worse.

Jughead is a nitwit, with or without the headgear. The NDP rats are fleeing his sinking ship. You don't need to degenerate into racism to make your point.

Getting back on point, I wasn't really aware of Nathan Cullen until I saw him perform at the justice committee and I too was impressed. Putting myself in his shoes though I can completely understand why he wouldn't want to commit to another 4 years in the wilderness by following Jughead into the election.

          Can not vote NDP.
Then , same story as always for the liberals.

And conservatives can not govern with out selling off assets.
          So look out
I am curious Sawfly what do you believe Trudeau has done for farmers that is positive? Do you feel the carbon tax will make farming more profitable? How does his overt pandering to Quebec which he believes is his path to re-election a benefit to anywhere but Quebec? He has 3 years of much larger than promised deficits and yet we are in an economic slowdown. I read an article yesterday on the National post website that Angus Reid had done a poll in early Feb. and 50% of Albertan's are in favor of separation, does this show Trudeau is doing a good job? Trudeau is from Quebec and is for Quebec plain and simple.

As for Jagmeet Singh, he is least popular in Quebec, I have no problem with his nationality, I do have a problem with his policies! Basically no pipelines and more government, plain and simple!

The Conservatives and Liberals are really good at listening to their corporate friends and doing something for them.

Numerous times on this site farmers of all stripes have called for governments to do something about transportation policy and protecting farmers right to save their own seeds. Both the seed industry and railways don't want real competition so they can over charge farmers and in many cases deliver little benefit.

As with governments of all stripes, large corporations have more power than citizens and behind the scenes corporate friendly deals of all types are made.

As we know from previous posts "Canada taxes its oil and gas companies at a fraction of the rate they are taxed abroad, including by countries ranked among the world’s most corrupt, according to an analysis of public data by the Guardian."

              https://www.theguardian.com/environment/true-north/2017/oct/26/revealed-oil-giants-pay-billions-less-tax-in-canada-than-abroad

This hasn't happened by accident. We let them take excessive profits and run, leaving taxpayers to clean up the mess and try to repair a broken economy overly dependent on resources that predictably go through cycles of boom and bust.

man it didn't take long for leftist drivel to come in here. Oil companies are taxed higher in other countries because that's the only industry they have and the govt has to keep the people in line. Its a social tool there and it there entire source of national income in some countries like SA. In those countries the locals wont even work for the oil companies.

Are we the sort of banana republic to try and do this too? Be glad we don't need to do that here and we have other sources of revenue. talk about blind spot.

In case you haven't notices, Canada oil lies well inland compared to most places on the planet and we have transportation issues and costs along. If you apply onerous taxes on a industry facing other headwinds place in the world don't have, you will kill the industry. Its always about killing the industry with leftists. tax them until they cant take it, they move and then stand there wondering what happened.

Peter Lougheed and Ed Stelmach both Conservatives tried to increase royalties and in the case of Lougheed put something significant away for future generations.

Instead we let oil companies make public policy on a public resource owned by the citizens.

Even Danny Williams Conservative premier of Newfoundland cut a better deal with the oil industry for the benefit of taxpayers.

But out west gutless politicians give in to their corporate supporters and lobbyists.

I think it was easier to justify higher royalties as Newfoundland is on the ocean, and at the time of Lougheed most oil came from conventional easier to extract sources into an emptier pipeline. I’m not in favour of low royalties neither but this extra production is coming from lower value higher extraction cost sources. I believe a long game outlook is necessary in order to keep our oil industry sustainable. That comes from value adding our resources through increased upgrading, refining, and petrochemical production. As it stands now our apparent solution is to build more pipelines to get it to tidewater which is alright for now. Creates lots of employment in the near term but down the road who is really benefiting? It’s the same deal with how our grain industry was set up and exacerbated by the cwb. We allowed the rest of the world to value add our raw materials, exporting jobs. Socialists who want government to do everything for them honestly missed the boat here. Supporting the raw export of our wheat through a govt ordered marketing board instead of trying to build value added industry here to keep jobs and money here. Argentina is one of the worlds largest soybean crushers and wheat millers. For as screwed up as they were they realized a need to keep value at home. I hate to say it but this country needs to be shook to its core before people will wake the **** up and start doing these things. Till then we’ll still be sitting around here 50 years later bitching about the same stuff.
