The problem I see is greedy seed company's all wanted a piece of the action so they all developed four of five varieties and we ended up with 40 different varieties but they are the same, none of them stand out. With forty varieties no one gets enough acers and if someone develops a better variety they will make lots of money. Don't blame farmers for this mess and try to make us pay more for the situation you guys created!
Sounds to me like it is a problem of enforcing the laws that are in place right now, if this wouldn't be an issue if they were followed. Why don't the seed growers police their industry if it is such a concern like Citizens on Patrol? There is going to have to be enforcement of new laws anyway, or is there?

      walterm,

      Good points!

Seed growers are not responsible for enforcing PBR laws[only to submit plant breeder royalties on pedigreed seed]... going after farmers whom break PBR laws in combination with UPOV 78/91; is the realm of the PBR cops. The PBR cops have some difficulty proving whom violates the PBR laws in combination with UPOV 78/91

        TOM4TAXINGFARMERS

can we just agree that we are experiencing things differently in regards to a seed tax.....and leave it at that. ...

The Canadian seed trade association is getting lots of political time to ensure this gets done...

Yes, I would like to discuss agriculture through the intersecting lens of experiencing it differently and watching the industry eat itself before our eyes.

I still think no matter what side your on it all goes back to the greedy bastards on Wall Street. They make everyone make bad decisions because they have to have record returns every year and it all trickles back to the people who actually make things happen.

                That's right TOM4NOTREPORTINGTHOSERESPONSIBLE........

seed growers and breeders will never rat themselves out on issues like the Triffid event....

They just send the costs to farmers....

Just remember with this seed tax comes responsibility and accountability. ....you might not like what you are wishing for...

If I buy a new variety and it doesn't perform as well as what I had given the data...rest assured ....I will be talking to the guys responsible for false advertising no matter how good a neighbor your ilk try to be....
