I was just wondering if everyone on all the various canola commissions are busy in the field. Hardly a peep on something that could be the most devastating thing to happen in the canola market in a decade. Maybe they are all already on the plane on their way to china to meet with officials, please forgive my ignorance. Perhaps they are all in meetings in Ottawa briefing the new ag minister, and the prime minister on the importance of canola to the Canadian economy, and especially the farm economy. Possibly since they all have other jobs and are important people maybe they are first meeting up this weekend to discuss a strategy to lobby the government to give a damn.
Or more likely they are all on holidays skidooing since this is the first nice weekend in two months. So far we have gotten a two paragraph press release that says how great canola is, but nothing on how they plan to help resolve this issue. Trade issues like this are literally the only thing worth keeping the canola growers around for, and what do we get from them so far, F all, nothing, nada, zilch, squat. If they can't be bothered to be pounding this issue to both the media and government, what worth do they have. Perhaps they have already spent all our money on leadership training for all our up and coming twitter stars.
In 2003(approx) when Asian countries where blocking imports of elk antlers, I was on the plane headed to Beijing, and sitting next to me where three or four guys involved in the elk board who where on their way to china to talk to chinese officials about the ban. And from what I recall this was days after the ban, and I am pretty sure the one guy said they were paying for this on their own dime(though I could be mistaken). I doubt our canola board members would cross the street without a per diem.
If they can't be bothered to make this a priority, then this is the last straw for me. It's time to start asking for our money back.
The fraggle rock theme song reminds me of our commissions, "Dance your cares away, save your worries for another day"
