You’re right in some of that statement. I like to think someday we as a group will get smarter and take back the industry. But I agree that’s getting tougher to do as we go along and lose control of things from seed rights onward.
For now though what do we do to at least give a better chance to make a living at this racket we need the Chinese market or someway to replace it. These dough heads in power obviously think time isn’t an issue. I don’t have faith in our opposition either though. It’s really us farmers against the political and business agendas but somehow we ve been brainwashed into thinking changing the gov is all we need. Although it may help I don’t think anyone in politics or the business network above us gives a shit about any of us as individuals to survive financially. Time is critical for many farmers that this gets solved now.

Yes China would be pulling the same shenanigans right now without Meng as well. It has huge problems, ASF and a weakening economy. They can't service their debt anymore as they have been the kings of mal investment over the past 5 years. For example, they went big into the oil sands just prior to the oil crash. Need to cut back on canola acreage in the future. A new LIFT program perhaps.

Read peoples comments on the CBC article and you soon realize Canada has some very stupid people. They blame it all on Trump. Or trade with the USA and forget China or don't grow Canola.

I think we blew this so bad it won't come back and if the USA and China get the deal that looks like it will happen. We will be shipping grain to the USA for a discount and they will then ship to China.

Yesterday Japan shipped Canola to China, let that sink in for a profit.

Hm did we grow that farmers?

They said Ag will be the next victim after their done with oil. Is this somehow the start of it? Getting rid of what the tree huggers say the worst is Gmos like canola then roundup then all pesticides. But won’t the giant chem go crazy if pesticides are gone well give them the rights to all seed to make them happy. Next will be farting cows then hogs chickens and so forth. It will be impossible to make a living on the farm so people will walk away and move to the cities. Agenda21 anyone. Hope I am wrong and this is just a trade war or something simple. But being the world is going to run out of food soon there is not to many polititions or major news outlets to worried about it.

Here's a solution, maybe not the solution, give Mrs Meng to the US but in exchange, the US navy pulls back all its ships from the Chinese shipping lanes. Let it turn into old style pirates and plunder. Win win, US puts extra pressure on China. This being the bitch is getting old.

They used to care about food but they don't anymore because nobody can mount a resistance to the system. Look at venezuala, starving, shelves empty eating stray dogs and they still cant overthrow the govt.

Farmers are sort of looked at in disdain because they are so independent. You have a group controlling a lot of the open spaces in the country and many of them could live without the govt if they had to. There is nobody else like that in the country. Everyone else is dependent on the govt.

There was a good article from Jim Rickards who studied how people in Europe survived 2 world wars and some pretty hard times. he found the most resilient ones always had self supporting real estate namely a home on arable land. Even if they lost the land in the war, the titles remained and it was returned to them after the war. A paid off title on a piece of productive land with water and some ammunition is just about the best asset there is every going to be.

Now in Europe its happening again. The real ag all went corporate and big family farms, the immigrants overran the cities and the smaller farmers and rural people fell back onto small pieced of land, feed themselves get some govt funded win and solar and that's how they live now.

What a sad state of affairs. It wouldn't take long to consider about the ramifications of the arrest of the Huawei woman. I have no doubt that the Huawei business with Chinese communist party influence are a threat to western governments and businesses. That being said, it wasn't Canada that was after them for legal infractions. Before we stepped into this mess on behalf of the US we should have got assurances and concessions.
Thinking long term, this thing will get worked out as China is not self sufficient in food production but it does expose the realities that China is governed by a communist country with motives of increased power and influence.

The frustrating part of all of this is that as grain farmers we are going to , actually are getting torched over an issue that does not have *** all to do with any of us period .

This arrest has put western Canadian farms under fire , and no one knows what to do about it . It’s fukin ridiculous.

I am not a fan of Freeland at all but hopefully her old man that farms in Alberta can give her some advice as to stop pissing on other heads of state !!!!
Especially the US , China and India for *** sakes . The three largest trading partners in the world dam near . And we rely tremendously on fukin exports !!!

Put your fukin virtue signaling aside and focus on helping Canadians as a whole and not just speacial interest groups.
That’s partly what’s led us to this point.
China , the US and India are still pissed about Trudeau’s first year in office where they tried to tell everyone else how they need to do business and virtue signal their societies. That’s the real issue still at play . JT and Freeland should have shut their mouths and focused on what’s best for all of us as a nation.
We are now as Canadians in a position that we could be screwed for a decade because of these idiots , especially us out west .

More of your drug induced fantasy. Corporate agriculture in Europe is almost non-existent compared to what it is here in north America. Farms are still so much smaller too - always have been due to the limited acres. Then the immigrants overran the cities? well, no they didn't actually but I guess the facts don't matter when you're trying to stoke a false anti-immigrant narrative.
Just absolute made up horse#$%@ on a topic you know nothing about.
