Cool old trucks and there price

    #2
What was the price of wheat back then....

Can't hardly buy tires for that same truck today for that price...

But I am a whining farmer....

In 67 CWB quota was WIDE OPEN, betting prices were up maybe $3 CAD. In 65, maybe $2 CAD, 1200 bushels for a farm truck with duals. Today ten times those bushels at $7. Wheat should be $70/ bu, to equal prices of vehicles.

Whose fault is it that the returns are so low in the ag sector, I would say that old saying of (if they are dumb enough to give it to me im smart enough to take it). And then the BTOs can make it go if all the stars align and if not they walk and everyone pays off the bankrupsy for them as they start up somewhere else.
They dont call us dumb farmers for nothing.

Just to make the comparison apples to apples, what would be the price of a 2wd regular cab pickup today with similar equipment. Would you even want it? I saw some advertised specials recently on 2018 Ram 4x 4 quad cabs with 5.7 Hemi with 100 demo km on it around $38000 from a local dealer (Redwater Dodge). My brother paid $36000 for a new Chevy 1500 extended cab 4 x4 back in 2002 for comparison. Invoice still in glove box. The newer trucks have A/C and 4 x 4 and will run for 400000K. The 2002 is still around and approaching that mileage with no significant work done. It is tired though. The 1965 would not make that kind of mileage. So how do the numbers compare now? Newer trucks are more expensive but not that far apart.

Of course, most of you here should remember the inflation of the Trudeau years that swept the country in the 70's, trucks weren't so cheap after that.
We had a GMC in the following series, '67 or '69 I think. That was the series with all those funky colours, canary yellow, fiery orange, pink, peacock blue,,,we had a lime green one w/ manual. I think by then the prices may have been higher from that of the ad you posted, but still fairly inexpensive, although, very few options on those vehicles,,, just what was needed, no extra fancy gadgets.

In 1976 or 77 you could buy a new 4430 JD for around 18000. I would sure take a new one of them over a new current model JD. And I’m quite sure the 4430 would last longer.

Neighbor bought a new 4430 about 1974, duals, AC, 2 hyd, $14000. By 1978 a used one we bought was $24000. 1972 1270 Case was $12000, 24.5 singles NO AC.
