Ok where is that money going to come from? Anything to do with that costs somebody to pay for it. And what for?
The carbon sequester bullshit cost us what a billion there is no sign that says it const me so many cents a litre because it likely cost us a lot more.

It will come from tax incentives and increased economic activity. let me give an example. You give homeowners a tax credit if they upgrade to R60. Lots will, some wont and the insulation companies get a multi yr boom doing all the work. Then you do furnaces, and appliance upgrades and LED installs. The you go for the gravy. A tax break for anyone that takes transit once a week. Then you go further, tax breaks for anyone who is brave enough to invest in solar or wind, or you create a project with investors from the general public and industry.

Lol oh I see you just go to the monopoly game and take that money for the incentive? You’d have to have a big incentive to make any real difference. A big incentive isn’t free. A lesson in numbers when you give an incentive you have less money to spend so you tax more to get that money. Nothing is free only the illusion.

I could have bought this idea if they were smart enough to say hey we already are sequestering carbon we spent a billion on it so we re doing our part but we must be sequestering so little that it’s not even recognized.

Yes and the other side is saying fuel will be more expensive so instead of buying fuel for lost heat you’ll go buy insulation or whatever solar etc to use less fuel. Contractors get the work etc.

Either way you pay for it. One side you see the payment in fuel the other side is somebody has to pay for the incentive.

I say it’s all bullshit. People will put insulation if they have the money right now people can’t afford to do many of these things due to cost. 4 cents a litre or a 4% discount isn’t going to give anybody much incentive to do anything. You d have to be talking big dollars either way to make any real difference.

If they collected money and said we re using that money to research to make solar panels so efficient you could hear your house very cheaply in the near future I d be much more in for that but that’s not what they are doing they are collecting the money as a tax plain and simple.

And where does the government get the revenues that they forgo with the tax break? Ie, if the home tax break costs the government $5 hundred million, should the government raise general taxes to collect the $5 hundred million that they have to pay out? Sounds like taxation of everyone to pay for a few to me. Or does government add to the debt? sounds like socialism to me.

Second, "a little tax break" likely is going to be used by someone in a higher tax position with the cash flow and equity to make "improvements" already rather than the person who does not have extra cash and probably could use home improvements much more. Who would be using the tax breaks? Guys like susuki, or the farmer who spends winters in florida to put new windows in all their home while the middle class gets to foot the bill though higher taxes. Tax breaks provide a lot more benefit to those with higher incomes and is in fact a redistribution scheme from lower to higher incomes.

Third Tax breaks do not necessarily change future attitudes or consumption. They are a one time reward for a specific action that may or may not solve the underlying problem unless they are so specific and so regulated few are going to use them.
