Stayed in Paris when I had just turned 21 , directly across from Norte Dame, amazing architecture and amazing how things were built 800 years ago.
Very sad . Apparently there aren’t trees tall enough in France anymore to replace the wooden beams that burnt

SF3, if you love history, goto France, rent a car, load gps at home and order atlas on amazon before you go. The countryside has elevators, orchards, pastures, small cities all have churches from 12 & 13 hundreds with the floor treads worn down 3 inches from constant foot traffic. In a church near Lyon from back then, the walls are covered with crosses with each family name and date - what a great idea. Wander around France down to the south of the country. I think France is less than 1000 miles north to south. Toll booths charging up to 19 Euro on the inter states so it costs a few euro to get from Paris to Monte Carlo and Italy, but really worth it. Around Dublin too, really fun coutryside. Kinda makes our open prairies quite mundane, but oh well.

When we made a round-trip of France , Tried to spend as many miles on back roads as we did tollroads , It might take three times longer but the scenery is well worth it.
Regrettably, we didn't actually go in Notre Dame. Saw it from the outside and The lineup to get in, and went elsewhere.

Here in Canada we take ours down when people complain, We rename our landmarks. Write out people from our history. Take down statues of past PMs.

A crying shame, the elevator system that went down. The railways and SWP were the big push. I was on the local board where our local rep would come with his chest puffed out to tell us what head office wanted. It didn’t matter that our elevator was just rebuilt. Where are they now? Pushing up daisies and we are left with the wrecked roads, semi traffic, waste of fuel. Then they tell to conserve - yep!
