So by your claims, the equalization formulas are perfect, its fine for one province to carry 10 others on the backs of a demonized industry under attack and that when oil runs out and the province is gutted after the transfers out, that the formula will kick in for Alberta and we should start seeing equalization funds return to our new have not province in a couple decades.

That doesn't hold water either. We have mass immigration into this country mostly into Quebec and Ontario and we are told that we need these young people to pay the bills. So are we getting that or more low skill low wage potentially dependent people into a generous provincial social system in Eastern Canada that one province holds up with their transfers.

The equalization system is discriminatory. Alberta is subsidizing everything. Old people, non productive people, new people, environmentalists, natives, socialists, etc.

The equalization formulae may need to be adjusted but Equalization is paid for by federal tax payers in all provinces including Quebec and Ontario. Alberta is not sending provincial tax revenues anywhere.

Alberta pays more taxes because they earn more taxable income. If you earn a 100,000 you pay more federal tax than if you earn 30,000. It just happens that there are proportionately a lot more 100,000 earners in Alberta than in other provinces.

Saskatchewan used to receive equalization transfers. Manitoba still does. Alberta still receives federal health and social transfers from taxpayers.

Harper could have changed the Equalization formulae if it was so bad.

Social programs are not subsidies. They are a essential part of our economy. Without them many sick elderly, disabled and out of work people would not have an income that would allow them to survive.

Social programs bring some economic and social stability. Universal healthcare is the highest cost program. And Albertans receive a federal health transfer payment to help pay for it. Is that a subsidy to Alberta?

Farmers and agriculture get subsidized by taxpayers too. So you are receiving socialist subsidies as well.

I don't feel like beating my head against a wall on the equalization issue with Socialists today, but I will point out that the words socialist, and logic can not be used in the same sentence together. As has been indicated in every post they have added to this thread.

that's what socialism/communism is all about . instead of enjoying all the money Alberta sends them , they are jealous of Alberta and too stupid to realize where their handouts are actually coming from . these transfer payments are a small part of the money going to other provinces . a neighbor was making $320 k , just think of the tax he was paying to sask. many people commute from Quebec, Nfld., Ont. BC and all provinces in fact . think of the Alberta money they took home

Oh for God sake, can we quit with the childish name calling, labelling, and insults and have a grown up conversation for once. I am not a socialist, and have never been one. The only party I have ever held a membership in was the Progressive Conservatives and I dropped that years ago as I disagreed with the direction the party was moving toward.

I don't consider Harper or Kenney to be in any way socialists, yet it was their government that last changed the equalization formula to what is still in effect today.

If you have nothing to add to the conversation except to try to bully people with name calling, why post?

Don’t worry about whether you or I are socialists or capitalists. US Republicans think we are all socialists with our universal state run healthcare. By their measure we are all going to hell. LOL.

Most major developed countries have a mix of socialist and capitalist policies, Including the USA which subsidizes many industries including agriculture. Saskatchewan has 3 successful widely supported state run crown corporations that provide lower cost utilities and insurance. They are doing a good job compared to the private sector in many places.

yes the mix is very good , i think govt should be involved with healthcare, power , home heating and fuel and gas would be nice also
i feel we do a lot of work with what our nat. gas and power costs us. they are doing a very good job
